Smitty on TMac

Things of note: mentions he has six drops. Six. For all the people that don’t know what a drop is, he has six. That’s a long distance from the league leader at ten. (To be fair, pro football reference has him at seven, still not bad.  Plenty of others is that same range.  His drop % is 6.3, which is low.)

Catchable ball success ratio: 83% which is great. Catchable being the key word.

Mentions his contested catch rate is low at 5/18 but that’ll get better I think when he can rely on muscle memory for routes, catches, etc and the game slows down for him

He has lived up to his draft selection.  Top-10 pick is a day 1 starter, impact player and consistent contributor.

His weakest points are easily attributed to inexperience and adjusting to the pro game.

Hes a stud, a star, and dawg whatever you want to call him, he’s him.

FWIW, TMac needs the following to set rookie team records for a Panthers rookie WR:

9 receptions, 86 receiving yards, 3 TD's

im rooting for him to get all 3.

I think his contested catch rate will go up next season. He just needs to add a little more strength.

He’s probably going to go down as the second best WR to ever play here. Not sure how much of a measuring stick that is, but I have a feeling we are going to see multiple years of him competing for the receiving title. Hes that good.

I don’t see him being better than Moose. But I’d take top 5.

Serious question, what's his ceiling look like? He doesnt have the top end speed, he still needs to work on snagging catches, I dont think his athleticism is top 1%. He is however football smart, good a route running and can make contested catches at times.

Is this his peak? How much more can he improve? Serious questions, not knocking him at all.

A little shiftier Tee Higgins without the elite contested catch skill.

I don't think this is his peak. For one, he's not always going to exist in a passing offense happy to just hit 3k yards. Even that aside, he'll learn routes better, get stronger, and adjust more to NFL speed in a way I think you'll see him improve quite a bit. He doesn't strike me as someone content with a season like this

I think Mike Evans is a good comparison production wise. Also Bryce is particularly good with touch throws which might help his #s as well.

Steve Smith is a top 10 WR all time. That won’t be eclipsed for a long time. DJ Moore is a great #1 WR as well but Steve Smith never got the chance to play with a QB that can extend plays in his prime. He also was historically under targeted by the running offense he played in.

Well, there are a pretty big chunk of big framed WR's that aren't speedsters that are also excellent route runners. Hopkins, Fitz etc.

He just needs to work on his execution and catching. Being stronger at the point of attack.

If he improves even 10-20% he will be in the discussion for best we have ever had.

It's up to him how good he wants to be.
