Good Insights from Jonathan Stewart. Podcast bleav in panthers

Recommended Posts

My best summary of Jonathan

1Seattle defense is the best in the league

2. Field possession game lost

3 defense has untimely missed tackles and penalties that allowed allowed Seattle offense to win field possession game, pointed to the long run after the Seattle illegal grounding as one example loss in field possession game. Gave them 16 yards unnecessarily    And of course  the offensive turnovers deep in their territory

4. Felt the defense could be special with a few more pieces   Pointed out Nic Scourton for great effort    Michael Jackson ‘played out of his mind ‘   And Cherulous played excellent and in played through pain

5.   Panthers offense, slow to the line and lethargic

6.  panthers receivers got no separation with Seattle   playing 2 high    On young’s interception, young thought corner was going to sit.

7 plays called allowed nothing but check downs  against. The 2 high.   Play calls and routes predictable on zone coverage

8  panthers offensive could have challenged mid zone more

9  panthers tried to run and couldn’t

10    Other commentator  did not like the kneel down with 2 mins to go

11  believes in the defense  now and future

12 little things, little mistakes talking about horn, ‘play with your feet, not your hands’

13  maybe Sanders being hurt also hurt the offense with mismatches and all came out in 13 personnel, might have been relying on him

I wouldn't get too attached to this D - I think Evero walks in January.

Gonna be a tough sell publicly….as the D will be the only area of improvement from last season to this season.  O is statistically going to be down this year pending they don’t go for a billion yards and points vs Tampa (it’s down vs last year with the Seattle game not even factoring yet)

Wouldn’t blame the d one bit. Barely have any playmakers and they have played well all year considering that fact, they have over performed actually. Like I’ve said, they rarely generate pass rush, especially without a blitz. That isn’t sustainable.

I kept hearing Jake mentioning how the game plan was in trouble once JT was injured and was lost. If JT is that big of a difference in the game plan, then this team is in trouble

Ridiculous idea. Just nobody wants to throw the nice guy QB under the bus like he deserves.

Yes Seattle is good, but there's no excuse for the performance today. Canales deserves some blame but ultimately what's he going to do?

Jtewart was in no way being an apologist

I did my best to summarize a crib notes version of what j stew and the other podcaster were saying  in a 38 min podcast

his discussion of the defense was full of props for them but I  pointed out the same as j stew did in the game thread, the panthers d missed a few critical open field tackles and frankly, they have for the past few years. We can have theories as to why but the fact remains they do …and Horn has had several critical and frankly bone headed mistakes of late, so much so, he is getting picked on it seems

he in no way anointed Bryce or Canales

I appreciate former players’ inputs as they see the field through a different lens than I do on the small screen…not at the stadium , so I don’t see the field

It’s more so the loss of the TE. James Mitchell is inactive on game days so it only left us with 2 TE’s

James Mitchell will obviously play next week so it was JT specifically but more so the fact he is a TE

Be prepared?

Canales really said that he expected them to play more zone. TMac said it caught them by surprise how much man they played. That’s concerning.

Witherspoon and Riq match up so well with TMac and Coker I don’t know how any “offensive HC” wouldn’t have a better plan

Games like today is when our lack of speed/YAC guys really show up. TMac and Coker are both pretty similar.

My concerns, which have been all year:

- Smart defenses dare Bryce to beat them deep. They disguise looks pre-snap really well and then assume the play call involves a 4-8 yard route concept and creep up. This also helps them against the run by not needing to fear getting beat over top. The games we’ve won and when 9 looks competent, we push the ball downfield more. We looked so scared today.

Do we adjust properly when initial gameplan and blueprint is being countered? Canales often times is too stubborn or too predictable.

Really hope Rob Hunt being back next week motivates this OL a little more. Run game hasn’t had the surge it did earlier in the year.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think having David Moore’s fresh legs and veteran presence might help this young WR room next week.
