The ickey ekwonu question...

Recommended Posts

It's a foregone conclusion he will miss 6-12 months. That leaves a significant hole at the position but not long term. A lot of reporters are penciling us in for a tackle at 19, which I don't think is a bad idea at worst you can slide him to right tackle seeing as moton is getting up there in age. But I don't think that does anything to get us over the hump.

If we draft a tackle at 19, does that make us better than we are vs the rams? Does that give us better pass rush or more play makers? I think you can draft a tackle down the line sure just to fill in for a while until ickey is back but I wouldn't invest a first round pick in a position just because a guy might miss a month at most of football or so. I would resign josh, brady chris and address holes we have no answers 2.

If you want to take a tackle or lineman after the 3rd round a project go for it.. but the holes at linebacker edge and a play making tight end and deep threat are the reason we are at home now. Not the back up left tackle who played decently. What say you?

I think a tackle in round 2 or 3 makes sense.  We have guys we can shift over to LT to survive if Ickey isn't ready in time.  Round 1, I don't see how we can go anything other than LB.  We need a psychotic LB who plays with his hair on fire and can take away the middle of the field.

A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive.

In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.

Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet.

It's still so darned early in all of this to say.

Icky is finished for  2026

free agency will not answer this problem

the draft, first or second rd might, a trade might

but to rely in Yosh, a career backup and brady coming off achilles surgery is not smart

the right tackle has had  issues   We cpuld do better than mayes

have to remember the panthers have the smallest qb in the league   … better be able to run the ball

go lines in the draft

why do you think brock  purdy  has so much time    Yes scheme is some if it but the 49ers have a line

I never want to see Yosh again.

its annoying, but tackle is now as big a need as pass-rusher, linebacker, and tight end. The silver lining, I guess, is that we have some more opportunities to just take BPA in the draft. I really liked the ways they found value last year, and trust them to get it right again this year.

The odds of him returning in any form that resembles a starting OL are slim.

Expecting him to return would be beyond stupid. By the time he recovers, he’ll be a free agent and will need some type of contract to play. I wouldn’t pay for that.

We need a LT for the future. Icky is gone.

Lol wut? It’s a very serious injury but he’s 25 and can absolutely come back from this. You don’t give up on home grown talent….franchise left tackles don’t grow on trees. You don’t remember the absolute disaster that position has been other than J gross? He will likely make his way back in the middle of the season.

No to fill-ins. It doesn't work, and Bryce will struggle with turnstiles in front of him. We need to address this in the draft (unless we have some unforseen trade). Days one and two have to be on the table. It's life. It's business. It is what it is.

Bro, Icky is done for all of 2026, and who knows if he even comes back the same player in 2027 (odds are not in his favor with that type of injury).

And Yosh filled in nice when he had the chance, but I don't trust him for a full season. You say it doesn't put us over the hump if we draft a LT, but it DAMN sure would put us back in the cellar if we don't have stability on the blindside. Having ANOTHER solid LT is NEVER bad a thing. I would argue keeping our QB (whoever that might be) upright is far more important than adding some pass rush or LB.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
