NFL.com mock draft: Panthers trade up for Reuben Bain

I would be indifferent to the trade honestly. Unless we’re landing a 3-down guy somehow via trade, edge rusher is a huge hole that has a trickle effect when bad/good. Critical position, so if we think there’s a legit immediate starter talent then it is tempting.

Gut says to stand pat and target an ILB if value aligns. But I have a strong inkling that and OL are getting addressed at minimum FA. Problem is, edge rusher is sparse as hell in FA.

If Bain is within reach, I wouldn’t be mad. But I always prefer an even pick package swap. IE send a 1st, 3rd, gain a higher 1st, 5th type thing.

There is no way this nasty motherfuger is on the board at 11. And if he were, we better trade up. It’s not like football with Bain, it’s a shotgun blast or a car crash, pure havoc. No one man should have all that power. He goes pick 2 or 4 and this is a non story.

Last thing we need to do is be trading up in the 1st round of this draft, unless we are talking like 1 or 2 spots if somebody good like Styles falls. I can very easily see a good talent like Peter Woods being there at 19.

I would like it if we trade back in the draft to the late 20s (a QB needy team might want to trade up to our spot and take Ty Simpson) and take Mesidor. I know he is old, but I think he might be one of the best edge rushers in the draft and would arguably be top 10 if he was 21 or 22.

Agreed that I highly doubt he falls out of the top 5 unless some character issues or bad medical history arises.

The 2 most coveted spots are QB and a premiere Pass Rusher. I have a hard time seeing him go outside the top-5, definitely not outside the top-10.

It shows how highly they’re thought of when Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart go as high as they did. Bain would’ve easily been ahead of them and Carter last year.

Now if we could package XL and 19 to move up to 11, I'd be all for that. Heck, I'm sure we've got a copy of Hurney's notes on how not to bust on your 1st round pick in a desk somewhere to include in the deal.

Not a fan of drafting an edge rusher this year.  They usually take a year or two to develop if they're not a Top 5 pick type of prospect.

Would much rather make an edge rusher our top FA signing and then use the draft to find a starting LB or DB (or LT if one falls to us given Ickey's status).

Just seems like the better allocation of resources this offseason, much easier to find an impact MLB late in the 1st round than a pass rusher, just as spending big money on an edge rusher is likely to get you a better ROI than big money on a LB.

Probably not. Do the picks that bounce of XLs hands count though? We can throw those in for free to sweeten the deal.

Didn't you know we are supposed to blindly support any player that ever dons a Carolina Panthers jersey.
