I was confident Matty Moore was going to be a solid player for us. Plus with the insure of :jc: I thought we were set for years. That obviously blew up in our face. I was really nervous about this season. Shows how much I know

2006. jake played lights out in the superbowl year, had arguably his best year as a passer in 2004, and then led one of the league's top offenses in 2005. 2006 was a little bit shaky for him but he was still the unquestioned starter and we all knew it. jake had mad chemistry with steve smith and deep respect in the lockerroom and around the league. he was still considered a franchise quarterback.

going into the 2007 season there were questions due to his slipping play in the latter half of '06, but if i recall correctly he had the highest QBR rating in the league going into week four, and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 8-1. ESPN was talking about his reanimated career and mentioning the panthers as early contenders for the division (and showing constant replays of steve smith pwning the entire texans' linebacker and secondary corps.)

i loved me some jake. and the jake that i loved was so long ago that it just makes the cammy cam juice that much sweeter to taste.

    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games as well, look at this......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
    • I will simply counter all that with: you should always strive, at every turn, to avoid indoctrinating young players into a culture of not playing to win the game.  Come man, that is an egghead academic approach that ignores the human element. it looks good on paper. Maybe.  In the voice of the great  Herm Edwards: Hello! You play to win the game.  I completely understand the need but that is not the way….
    • I wouldn't mind a te room of LaPorta,  Musgrave and b strange
