Interesting read. Does not really address the difference in game and combine performance (other than perhaps the quote below). Also mentions, although been projected to the Panthers...he is falling in some projections.

"I don't think we used him quite the way we should have," said former Tigers defensive line coach Mike DuBose, who coached the Alabama defensive line from 1990 to 1996 and was the Crimson Tide head coach from 1997 to 2000. "We didn't put him in the best situations, but he never complained about it …

"He's a great young man and potentially the best defensive lineman that I've ever coached. I've never been around anybody as big, strong, explosive and flexible. To me, the flexibility part is the part that's rare."

ESPN draft experts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have Poe going No. 9 overall to Carolina, but on Monday NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock said he moved Poe down his board, saying, "Coming off the combine, I wanted to show people what a freak this kid Poe is, and he is a physical freak, no doubt. However, the tape is very average, so how do you match the two up -- potential versus his actual game footage?"

The fact that he grew poor and without much actually gives me some hope he will be hungry to succeed and do what he has to in order to assure he gets that big second contract. With the new rookie scale where you don't get a huge initial contract but have to work for the second one, I don't think you will so many guys who stop trying and give up like Russell did. As for boom or bust guys, I can think of another boom ot bust players that turned out pretty well for us. It all comes down to the amount of heart the guy has. I suspect the intervewing process has been privotal in deciding if he is the one.

One of the biggest boom or bust guys in a long time IMO.

Yep. Huge risk, but a potential huge reward too. From a physical standpoint, he's everything you could possibly want in a DT prospect. He'll go in the top half of round one. Someone is gonna fall in love with his potential.

    • I think we pick it up and then someone else ends up emerging as the QB next year and we end up cutting him in year 5 and eating it.  That would be the most on brand thing to happen.
    • Evero has his faults, but even in that loss, the team only gave up 20 points. Your post gets to the heart of the matter. We are not a talented team on defense at this time. Some of our younger guys may develop w/more playing time, but for now we have no impact players at LB or EDGE. We could really use a ball-hawking S on the back end as well. We have exactly two players that have to be accounted for on every play, D. Brown, and J.Horn. Mike Jackson has been solid. The other starters would probably be backups on most the upper echelon NFL teams. We really can't expect this team to a Top 10 defense with such a lack of talent. All things considered I've been somewhat impressed with how much better they have played this year.   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-points-per-game   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-average-team-passer-rating We are in the top 15 in terms of points allowed per game (22.6) and top 12 in defensive passer rating (88.9). And, we are doing this without a formidable PASS RUSH. Even our rushing defense has improved. We are #16 in rushing yards allowed per game (116) compared to 179 per game last season. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-rushing-yards-per-game I wouldn't cry if Evero moved on after the season, but his defense isn't the biggest worry for our team.
    • The funny part is she looks older and not in a good way...
