Restructure some of those big contracts. Make solid draft picks that address need. Will impress me if instead of cutting gamble beason etc u make a trade and get something in return.

Amini at LG, Keuchly at OLB and MLB, Adams at PR, Norman played a lot before Gamble went down. Nortman was the starting Punter. I just listed players who would've got a ton of playing time with out injuries on here.

I don't know that he can do anything that'll make me optimistic about next season.

If he makes good decisions on the draft and free agency though, I might have reason for optimism the year after.

And since I know it won't happen this offseason, stealing a few people from the Giants front office a year from now would absolutely help my outlook for the future.

This article says we are roughly 11.8 million over the cap once the carry over money is figured in. If we use the numbers in this thread. Cutting Gamble, Ron Edwards and Nakumura get you even.

So even if we keep Williams, Gross and Beason but restructure the deals for a few million apiece we are sitting 6-8 million under the cap which covers your rookies. You cut Tolbert, cut Onatolu, restructure Godfrey, restructure Dwan Edwards and cut Armanti and you have 5 or 6 million more.

And who have we gotten rid of really?? I think we can cut Pickles and save a few million more. Yeah a rookie would be better or a minimum vet guy from another team. I don't see that cutting a lot of useless guys will keep us out of free agency or doom us to suck. We have had a number of guys who have seriously underperformed but got paid well for nothing.

Until he actually screws up, I am going to give Gettlemen my trust. He has a proven track record as a pro evaluater. Who is he going to trust to lead him through the draft? That is the only qualm I have.

The hiring of Gettlemen put us back on track. We have a football guy running our football team. Why not give him a chance to actually make a few decisions before we question his ability?

Yes there is going to be addition by subtraction for this team. However, I, and many others, just happen to believe that that bright future we all envisioned when we drafted Cam, has already started.

The team that played the last eight games last year can compete with anyone. If we can just keep improving. We should be just fine. Or even better, great.

Also, the only hole this team truly has? RG. Any other position can be upgraded, but none can be thought of as holes. We may not have stars at every position. But the team that finished last year was very solid. If we have a solid draft, and do well in FA, there is no reason we cannot be good to great next year.

IMO, with Gettlemen helping him, Rivera is going to get us where we want to go. And I am giddy over that prospect.

he's pretty much been handed a shitsandwich, cap wise. I don't see many upgrades being made, so he's going to have to maximize the draft. Though evaluating personnel is his best attribute, the deck is stacked against him this year

Why are the exact same scouts here ? Why has the scouting department not had bodies added ? If the idea is to build from the draft and supplement with FA why do we not heavily invest in scouting ?

He's driving now. His experience alone is good enough. Add the fact that he's there and its not Hurney. I for one feel reassured. Remember, scouts did their jobs, Hurney was the one pulling the trigger based on the information the scouts supplied. Who's to say that maybe the scouts gave him the right choices but Hurney picked the wrong player.

Could work both ways, I know. But from what I'm reading and hearing about Gettleman, he will be a lot more thorough with this process than Hurney.

Simplified, if we sign a player for a 20 million dollar contract over 5 years, but pay him 10 of it in a signing bonus, the cap hit for the first year is 4 million and not 12 million, the bonus is pro-rated. But in year three, if we cut him, we absorb the 6 million he has remaining of the pro-rated bonus. There are other ways that the way a contract is structured can mess up your cap if you cut the player, but that's the easiest one to understand.
