teams weren't offering much for williams

It pisses me off that Williams is viewed as such a thorn in the teams side.

He has done nothing but produce when given the opportunity and become a leader/team player/fan favorite. All this crap was solely brought on from the albatross contract he signed from dumb ass hurney. You can't blame him for signing something like that but you can blame the craptastic GM who gave it to him.

even if he isn't cut, if he starts the season slow and ineffective like he historically has and barner steps in and produces...he could find himself sitting on the sidelines.

Thats been our offensive line and Stewart too. Its never been just D Will

Just because we want the overall betterment of the team (cap money going to positions of major need) doesn't mean we don't appreciate everything that DeAngelo has done. I'm a huge fan of his (as a person and a player).

I tried to word it so that it didn't sound like an attack on anyone's viewpoint about him as a player. I just think it sucks that there is hardly any room for appreciation of the man because of a bunch of financial crap that is completely out of anyone's control. I'm sure wed be hard pressed to find anyone here critical of his contributions or actual on the field ability he has shown through last season.

a ton of mileage. a history loaded with injuries and missed games. the 7th highest paid RB in the league this year and will be the 4th highest paid next year and again the year after that , his salary growing by a million each year....i can just hear eyes rolling in the heads of GMs and coaches around the league, esp. when you can find better RBs pretty much at any point in the draft as evidenced again and again and again yearly by teams smart enough to not draft early RBs or give them giant contracts. the value just isn't there.

there is no interest because he's not nearly worth the money he's getting  esp. when the market is as low and the league is leaning more on RB committees and the passing game.

the only ones dumb enough to give an RB, esp. with that much mileage that much money and already have. if he was our whole offense like ADP and MJD and chris johnson...yeah, i could understand it but that isn't the case  in fact he's the backup and one of two RBs we have overpaid for.

the whole situation just sucks.

He's one of my all time favs. And yes he couldnt turn down the money. But he could take a pay cut/restructure to help out.

I think that if JStew, Tolbert, and Smith all finish camp health and if Barner shows some nice flashes, there's no way that DWill is on the team at the start of the season.

i think the final straw would be having the opportunity to sign a player they feel they can't pass on. williams would be cut to make room.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
