Should we be worried?

Why do people make this assumption that when someone says, "hey the panthers haven't looked sharp, and haven't really had any consistency" that this is the response?

 

Is that honestly what you think the OP was worried about or are you just being a d bag?  Because its hard to tell sometimes.

 

Me personally, until the panthers show me a reason NOT to be concerned then I am.  I'm not concerned with the front 7, or Norman's development, or our wide receivers, BUT I am concerned about the offensive line and Cam's accuracy and decision making.  He could have hit smith on a long play on third down and he simply made a terrible throw.  That's not a preseason thing or playing vanilla, or not game planning...that's a Cam thing and it has been for a while.

Knew I was going to flamed for starting this... OK I'll say it - I have no confidence we are going to get off to this 'fast start' that everyone is hoping for. I frankly have no confidence in Rivera after seeing the same old crap last couple games and during training camp. Cam getting picked left and right, overthrowing receivers. Don't have much confidence in him either right now. Cam + Rivera = LOSING GAMES!! Change either one and maybe we can get somewhere but I see a disaster heading our way until then. We are going to effing SUCK! Flame away!!!!

I definitely think it is time to worry, but it is not the end of the world. Yes Cam looked extraordinarily inaccurate, and yes the offensive line got absolutetly wrecked by one of the worst defenses in the league. But it is the preseason and they can get better, people oftentimes bring up the "well we did not have a gameplan" when it comes to the preseason, yet they do not realize that it makes this significantly worse. That means that our guys got straight up beat by theirs, at nearly every position on both sides of the ball.

 

But we will get better. The real question however, is how much better and how much in the end will it matter? If it takes us until week 8 to get halfway decent and we are sitting at 1-6 then at that point it does not matter. Every great team is at least halfway decent in the preseason.

 

Who remembers 2008? Our running game was STUPID in the preseason, and guess what? It was stupid in the regular season. You remember 2011? 2012?.....

You may can revisit this thread in Week 2 of the regular season...but its the preseason. We're not running all the plays, we're auditioning players, we're playing not to get injured, we're using half ass game-plans while not showing everything...it's the pre-season. 

 

To beat a dead horse, we were a handful of plays away from being 10-6 or so last year. Personally, I think we've improved or have the potential for improvement with some additions/certain guys stepping up. Could it all crash? Sure. Same can be said for every team. But for now, it's the pre-season.

You wanna know what went into us losing games last year?  It was throws like that third and long when Cam bought some time rolled out and completely missed Smitty and damn near threw a pick.  

 

Kinda like the play against Seattle when he threw a would be game winning TD into the dirt.  Cam has to get better.  The rest of the team does as well, and Rivera needs to be better.  But when the game is on the line and the QB has to make a throw then Cam needs to be better at making those throws.

We didn't look that bad on offense. Cam has not had too many accuracy issues so i wouldn't worry. It can be difficult when you only play 1 quarter to get in a groove. Week 3 will be a better gauge.

I'm laughing at some of these people who for some reason got caught completely off guard. Just b/c the Panthers to 16-0 in your Madden season doesn't mean it's going to transmit over to the field.

The only thing that concerns me right now is Garry Williams, Byron Bell ,and Amini Silitolu. 

 

The defense doesn't concern me because:  1.  they have turned over opposing teams offenses and gotten to the QB.  2.  They played against Chip Kelly's new offense and only gave up 14 points.  Regardless of whether we think that offense will work in the NFL, it is something new and something that wasn't game planned for.  Our defense was picked apart last night, however there was no planning put in to stop it and i'd say it was painfully obvious Rivera and company were just trying to get a look at some specific players on defense (if you disagree with this, then please explain to me how in the world it makes any sense for Fua to be running with the ones). 

 

Deangelo looks sharp (he just needs the touches).  Cam has looked so-so, but it is pretty obvious that he has been told to make his reads and stay in the pocket.  It would make no sense for him to be running around like his normal self and risk injury.  When the real games start, Cam will be more accurate and more dangerous due to his ability to avoid pressure and extend plays.

 

Our receivers have been a bright spot.  Lafell looks good, smith is always good. Gettis and Armanti has made plays.  Even Pilares and Ginn have caught the ball.  Greg Olsen is a pro bowler and Brandon Williams is (one bad block away) from being the most intriguing offensive panther player.

 

Keep in mind we are without Tolbert and Stewart (two very important pieces).

I'm not saying get rid of Cam. At least right now. But if he regresses more....than that's another story. Gman said it himself! Start winning or don't let the door hit ya on the way out. We need effing winners on this team. Delhomme isn't nearly as talented as Cam but he was an effing winner (until tommy john). I'm sick of tiptoeing around this. Cam either starts winning THIS YEAR or he'll follow the same path as V.Young, Vick, D. Anderson, McCoy, etc. - off the team and somewhere else as a talented, but can't get it done backup in the NFL.
