Panthers Sign K Graham Gano to Four-Year Deal

If I remember correctly Gano only missed 3 FG's.

@ New Orleans

@ Miami

@ San Fran

He was never really asked to come in and make big time kicks. Not his fault obviously but I still don't have alot of faith in Gano. That shank on the extra point in Philly will not escape my memory! I'd say the 2 biggest kicks of the season for him came in San Fran where he went 1 for 2. After missing the first he bounced back nicely and hit the second.

Most games were either blowouts or Cam led touchdowns drives. Now he's awesome on kickoffs, and it's better to have 1 kicker doing both than having to pay two guys.

I like Gano and like the power he has in his leg, I'm just still not sold on him in crunch time yet.

I've seen a fair amount of improvement from when he first got here.

Add in that our assistant ST Coach is a well-known guy with a history of success.

Remember, we used to have 2 roster spots doing what he does.

and most were cool with it as long as we could keep kasay. oye. sometimes you've got to move on from a team icon when the cost well exceeds the level of talent. just make sure you replace that icon with someone that doesn't crap the bed (mare). the only thing worse than losing a  favorite is watching their replacement suck.

btw, this contract is so much better than the on  we gave mare. i mean it may be more, but we gave mare his contract before we realized how bad he was. gano is much better than anyone could have thought or hoped for. dude realy helped us and earned that deal.

With Mare, it wasn't just the fact that we gave him a huge contract, but it was without even seeing him play a single game in a Panthers uniform. Gano came in, and rightfully earned his place here. Which is how it should have happened to begin with when we let Kasay go.

Yeah, I even said to myself a few times last season that it's amazing how much Gano had improved from when we first got him.

Dude has a monster leg, so the potential is obviously there.

It was encouraging to see him make the second kick in SF after missing the first. Once a kicker is beat mentally, it's usually game over.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
