D-Will in shock over loss of receiving corp

I am still not convinced the people we brought in are worse then those let go. Dwill just needs to keep his mouth shut and play. If DeAngelo is in such distraught and shock about this then let him take a pay cut off his awful contract that is holding back the team so they can go get better WR that will make him feel better. I cannot wait until he is cut.

It's not his job to take a pay cut, when he signed his contract he was well worth the money. It's the front office's job to get the most out of him by putting an offensive line in front of him. When the line blocks, dwill runs well. If you know you don't have a great offensive line then it's the coaches job to scheme and design plays to mask that.

Williams is a tool and with a little luck he'll be gone next year. It shows the lack of competitive spirit that he has with him acting scared before he even takes a snap with these guys. The fact that he said he doesn't feel any pressure despite his feeling that our offense has downgraded is a joke. Most players would say that they see it as an opportunity to rise up and take more of the burden if necessary. Not Deangelo...he has gone from one of my favorite players early in his career to damn near the only Panther I legitimately wish was not on the team.

Lol what does DWill's contract have to do with our receiving corp?

I've given him as much grief as anyone but he has a right to take the money offered to him and he has a right to question the team's moves. He has nothing to do with the decisions we've made at that area.

Deangelo Williams was not worth the money when he re-signed with the Panthers.  He was coming off the worst statistical season of his career in 2010, an injury-riddled season where he only put up 361 yards and 1 TD.  Then thanks to the brilliance that was Marty Hurney, he got a MASSIVE contract extension.  He never had another 1000 yard season and has been a mediocre RB at best since signing that contact.  Dude seriously needs to shut up or take a paycut.

Yeah I have never gotten the "this is Dwill's fault he needs to shut up" mentality. Plenty of teams have dead money and contracts that look bad in hindsight.

Heck don't we have like $10m in dead money for Beason who is now a tackling machine in New York.

These comments are pretty tame compared to the crap that comes out of some player's mouths.

no he was not worth the value when it was obvious the nfl was transitioning to a passing league.

if you think he was worth the money then you need to shut up about getting wide receivers in FA.

This is about as foolish as I have seen you post.

DWill was never, nor will he ever be worth what he signed for.

And as for the "it's not his job to take a pay cut", it's also not his job to trash his own team to the media.  He needs to shut up, and try to get 1000 yards this season.  Something he hasn't done since 2009.

Asked if he feels that losing receivers puts more pressure on the running backs, Williams answered, “No, it puts more pressure on our front office because you make these moves, getting rid of four receivers, you’ve got to bring in guys.”

Way out on a huge limb here, but DW probably needs to shut up and run the damn ball. I bet they all want Hurney Clause back. Gonna piss some folks off here, but here we go:

Since 2009, the completion rate to Smitty is 53.8%.  Putting that into perspective, 8 of the NFL's top 50 WRs in 2013 were below 60%.  The average was 63%.   "But what about the chip....?"

Ginn, Lafell, and Smith were targeted 68 more times than Cotchery, Avant, and Underwood in 2013.  They had 409 more yards--combined---for the season.  They scored 2 fewer TDs (14-16) than our new WRs. It stands to reason that the new group would have equaled or surpassed the yardage of the old Panthers and probably scored about 5 more TDs if they had been given the same number of opportunities.  It is important to note that we are comparing our starting 3 WRs in 2013 to players Gettlemen found in free agency's scrap heap.

Smitty's salary in 2013 was to be $7m--he is making about that or more now...Cotchery is making $1.9 million

Ginn's salary is about $3.3million...Underwood is making $1.1 million

Lafell's salary is about $3 million...Avant is making $1 million

Sorry DW, but you lost one of the least productive receiving corps in the league, and with Cam Newton as the QB, that is saying something.  Sorry the GM is not going to make mediocre and below average players feel secure here.

When we bring in that stud WR from this loaded draft, you will find that our complimentary players are as good as the WR unit last season.

    • Everyone knew the catch was secured and didn't move. That was clear to the entire audience. The only ones who thought it wasn't a catch were in the NYC home office. They knew they'd just offer an apology the next day.
    • NEVER FORGET!!!!   Canales was on no one's radar. Tepper couldn't get anyone to come here. He was all in on Ben Johnson. Nobody wants to work with Tepper, however Canales tenure may prove important for the next guy. This guy still has no idea what he's doing.
    • The 4th down play was poor execution by Chuba. He didn't want to get physical like Rico and cut North South to lean on his blocks from Tremble and Ekwonu for half a yard. Also, the 3rd down play before that Bryce audibled out to a QB run and almost got the 1st down was on Chuba for not knowing the play call leading to poor execution. You can see Chuba's confusion when Bryce had to realign him. Then Chuba thought he was getting the handoff and was slow to develop his double team on the DE with Tremble. Then Chuba hesitated on pushing the block and just ran to the sideline making Bryce have to loop around him. This pulled the DE away from Tremble forcing Chuba to chip on the DE late and leaving the safety as a free defender. Chuba was suppose to double down on the DE to let Tremble peel off to the safety. This allows Bryce to set up his run to the inside or outside after the safety commits. You can also see Tremble walk over to talk to Chuba after the play and Chuba shrugs which tells me he didn't know what to do. The audible would have worked on 3rd and the dive would have worked on 4th. The plays were good calls and drawn up well. The question is why was Chuba unprepared for those plays in two critical back to back plays? I like Chuba as a 1st down RB and passing downs, but I have always seen him lacking the power and vision to be a short yardage power back. Chuba didn't come prepared for the Saints game or he was thrown into a position at the 3 spot that he was never prepared for.
