Brandt: Draft position will likely be 21 (provided we get the W)

NEEDS (in this order) IMO

1. LT

2. S

3. WR

4. CB

5. Backup lineman

i agree with this 100%. our needs have shifted since the beginning of the year. left tackle is the biggest hole, and suddenly corner has plunged as a position of need and left the safety position as our biggest deficiency on defense. after that we need another receiver to place across from benjamin to open things up in the passing game, a nickelback (assuming bene starts outside next year) and some depth at guard and tackle.

toss in a late-round running back and we're golden.

It may be a little different after free agency. Don't know who we could get or who we lose and refuse to replace. But as of right now this is my game plan.

The only thing unmentioned (I wouldn't necessarily put in that top-5 but it could be argued for our 4th or 5th biggest need is an OLB.  Call me crazy but I don't think the staff has much stock in Blackburn or Klein anymore.  I mean, this Glanton guy looked ok but it's nice to have a really athletic blitzing LB that can keep up with certain TEs and also WRs when we're not in nickel.

That'd be a top-3 round surprise pick that would initially piss everyone off that they would soon learn to love a la Turner and Ealy.

Oh and Edwards and Cole's contracts expire and they'll both be 33+.  DT could become a need if DG chooses not to retain them.

I'd say:

1) LT

2) SS

3) WR

4) Nickel

5) OLB

6) T/G Backup to replace Nate/Velasco

7) RB

I have to admit, I'm really torn on this. For those making the argument "make playoffs no matter what, fug draft position." Keep this in mind, 99% of the time when a team is in the same position as us, one win away from the playoffs, making the playoffs would only drop you a few spots or so. Our situation is very unique and rare, our current situation has us dropping substantially in draft position if we make the playoffs or not. Dropping from top 9 to top 21 is huge as opposed to dropping from top 15 to top 20

I wouldn't be against drafting another WR in the first. The way our offensive line has played the past few weeks I wouldn't be against not drafting a Offensive linemen. I wouldn't mind us drafting a linebacker because if we loose Davis our defense will suffer so why not get his replacement?

Safety would be a good position considering how old Harper and Decoud are.

I also wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a DT, Probably not in the first. Cole and Edwards are old and we rely a lot on our defensive line. I wish we would have kept Frank Kearse around.

So I would say go BPA like we normally do because when you reach for a player you get screwed just like the AE trade and Everette brown fiasco.

Gettleman will draft BPA with the first. I hope its a position of need. With Alexander back and Ealy improving along with Addison, DE is less important . I know Hardy is gone unless something unexpected happens. We surely need OL help.

Everyone on the line is young except Kalil. Maybe a vet LT and a good pick in the draft. Harper should be a backup now, so a safety is a need. Dwill might be gone, but Stewart, Fozzy, and Tolbert can handle the job. Keep Cotchery along with Philly and KB and maybe WR if the draft is right. Future looks good.

A little known secret in the 2015 draft is that the value/quality of player(s) is not much different from 8 to 21.

Aren't all secrets "little known"?

Kidding.

I like the OT market this year better than last year.  I think we can get one at 21.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
