Could Melvin White make the transition to Safety?

yeah i share the same sentiments regarding Riveras decision to start Harper.however I hope Jones starts at SS this upcoming season and talent supersedes fear and loyalty.

I felt like there were times when Jones seemed lost out there. Surely he's fast and can cover ground but I'm thinking of quite a few impressions where he seemed all turned around. But maybe study and reps can change that.

Sorry about the botched quote, still figuring this mobile stuff out. As far as colin goes, i feel safety is a position that deals with a natural feel for the game and instincts. Not sure all the speed in the world can make up for a lack there of.

I thought of this before and believe it would be worth a try. Of course I did believe we should try to see what Godfrey could do at CB and we all know how that worked out. I would honestly rather have Lester than White at safety but crazier things have worked out.

what if instead of moving every player who doesnt perform to a new position we simply sign a good one or invest a high draft pick on it.

I don't get why he didn't start opposite Norman with Bene in the slot last year. I forget the timing of it all but I remember after Cason was cut it was Norman and Bene on the outside and Jones at nickel with Mel only coming in on ST or when a guy was hurt, like Norman was I believe at the end of a game late in the year. I thought our secondary as a whole would be stronger with Bene at nickel (upgrade over Jones there) and Mel outside (downgrade from Bene, but worth it with Bene being a bigger upgrade at nickel). I honestly don't really like when guys change positions unless they weren't at their natural position to begin with, but I guess with a guy like Mel it wouldn't hurt too much to try. If it were me though I'd just keep him as backup CB or let him compete for a starting outside position with Bene. He doesn't really fit at nickel, or know that position well.

might be a good idea at the draft presser to ask gettleman straight up if there are any position changes. i remember the news about godfrey was a bit of a surprise.

Lester is more than capable. Bigger guy and has made some INT with his short time playing. I think Melvin is a good matchup for some WR... but speedy guys nah

melvin white is an athlete that can be used. he's played well before under the right circumstances. as far as switching to safety, he obviously has skills that translate but he seems to have lost his confidence. probably a better idea to get that back before switching his position and asking him to play meaningful snaps

Jones has excellent range and can quickly change direction.so,I believe he would do really well covering TEs. and then on top of that he possesses the idealistic combination of having the ability to lay the big hit (alot of big hitters are not good tacklers) and still be a reliable tackler.also, he does a good job in finding the right hole in run support,and has excellent recovery speed.so,I see Jones as a real possibility at SS whenever combining his skill set with his size.

Forget about an experiment, where a guy is not at his natural position, draft Clayton Geathers. It's too critical of a position.
