Top 5 Panthers to break out this season

Recommended Posts

A really well researched Bleacher Report article (shocker) that covers the top 5 breakout prospects for this season:

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2472856-5-carolina-panthers-players-poised-for-a-breakout-campaign-in-2015/page/6

5. Bene

He played so well that, when Sports Illustrated redid the 2014 draft back in January, they bumped him all the way up to the 21st-overall pick.

4. Boston

Boston missed just one tackle last season, compared to DeCoud's seven and Roman Harper's nine.

3. Ealy

It feels like the game slowed down for him as the season went on, however. He went from seeming way out of his depth and floundering to actually providing elements of a pass rush, moving around on the line and becoming a player the other team had to at least account for.

2. 2015 rookie

Imagining Williams and Turner opening massive holes on the right side is incredibly tempting. Jonathan Stewart would have acres of space to run behind that pair, in all likelihood. By the end of the 2015 season, I expect to see Williams regularly starting at right tackle.

1. A real surprise (A few people have suggested this guy is a beast but wasn't expecting him to be number 1)

Keep his name filed away for future reference—he has a very good chance of becoming the most productive undrafted free agent not named La'El Collins that any team picked up this year.

Worth a read, some good stats in the article.

1. Cam Newton - Time for his all pro year, there are no excuses this year with him full healthy, and with plenty of weapons. Expect 30+ passing tds to go along with his 5+ rushing tds.

2. Josh Norman - A full year of him starting with his newly founded consistency will mean Vontae Davis type production. We have our lockdown corner,

3. Shaq Thompson - I truly believe he will be a huge difference maker in the packages we make for him, he is just too much of a playmaker not to have a huge impact.

4. Jonathan Stewart - Maybe not so much of a breakout as a return to greatness, but I imagine he will stay healthy the whole year, running behind a mean o-line. Expect him to be a huge offensive cog. 1,400 yards, 13 tds, 300+ receiving, and a couple of receiving tds.

5. Tre Boston - Looked like a pro bowler the last couple of games, he will have developed further and improve his production through a 16 game season.

I hate to leave any of our DEs off of the list, because one of them will be the clear starter, but it's just so hard to choose.

I love that stat about Boston that he only missed 1 tackle the whole year. He needs to improve in coverage a little, but he has potential to break out big time this season. Watching the way he, Bene, Norman, and even Harper go after the ball and make plays.... Combine that with Luke and TD, and include Shaq's ability to make plays. This is going to be one scary defense.

I didn't miss any.

Cam- contract year , everyone is doubting him and he wants to prove that hes better then andrew luck and wilson. He also has a better oline and more weapons for him.

Frank alexander- after multiple suspensions he has to have a chip on his shoulder.

Funchess- first time ever having a decent qb, going to want to prove hes a first rd talent.

Bene- going to show hes not only just a nickle back

Tedd ginn- finally back on the only team that gave him a chance at wr. I feel he goes back to 2013 form

Yea, Cam "broke out" year one game one vs the Cardinals.

Break out players for this year:

5. Funchess.  I've been warming to the pick a bit, hopefully he has a similar break out year to KB's last year.

4. Norwell and/or Remmers.  Both played reasonably well last year.  Hopefully one or both of them can cement themselves as above average starters this year.

3. Bene and Norman.  Both played well last year, both played only part of the season.  Neither has played well for an entire season.  I think they both do just that this year.

2. Oher.  Looked good for his first season or two and then just terrible since.  Hopefully the reunion with Matsko and new scenery will make him "break out" even better than he started out.

1. Ealy and/or Alexander.  For this team to have success, one or both of these guys HAVE to have a very good year.  I'm talking 8 sacks minimum, while playing well against the run.

These aren't my predictions, they're my hopes.

I'm not really sure we can call Cam, Jstew and Ted Ginn 'break out' players....

Why? Cam's yet to have an elite season. He could break out for one. Stew has been great but has never in his career played a full season as the clear cut #1 back. He could definitely breakout for 1500 yards. And Ginn has yet to have a great season as a WR. I don't see him "breaking out" at all but he could have a breakout year as a wideout. None of these three are so established that they can't have a breakout year.

We obviously need a pass rush but we also have talent in the secondary we didn't have in 2013

Boston

Alexander

KB

Cam

Corey brown.....yea i said it.

If Corey can stay healthy I see no reason to leave him off the list. With all the attention KB, Funch, Olsen, Cam, And Stewart will be getting, he could really do some work. He would have had a lot better stats if he started from week 1 and stayed healthy.

#1) Frank Alexander. I think he starts all 16 games and flirts with 10+ sacks.  Panthers might also be able to re-sign him for cheap because of his past suspension issues.

#2) Josh Norman.  Not exactly "breakout" but, but I see him having a career year, playing at a Pro Bowl level.  He finally looks like he's put it all together and the Panthers need him to stay healthy if they expect to contend.  He can shut down the best receivers.  Panthers might not be able to afford to re-sign him next year.

#3) Daryl Williams.  He might not start Week 1, but he'll be starting by the end of the season, when all Panthers fans will be saying "Why wasn't he starting all along?  Did you see him completely maul that guy?"

#4) Jarrett Boykin.  Bold prediction but I think he pushes out Cotchery for the #3 receiver spot.  Ginn subs him out to stretch the field.

#5) Cameron Artis-Payne.  Let's be real Panthers fans, Stewart is not staying healthy all year.  CAP is getting 100+ carries this year and will put around 500 yards, 3 TDs, 4 YPC
