Gettledaddy says agents can't scare him

This is turning into murky waters real quickly.  I get the early posturing in order to establish negotiations amongst the player and front office, but I really will question a move that doesn't have KK here long-term.

-   You can let Smitty go, because I believe Cam needed that.  It also helped Benjamin ball out in his rookie year and the bond between Cam-KB-Olsen grow into something special.  Not sure that happens with the alpha dog still here.

-   Letting DeAngelo go was a necessary business move and I saw no ill-effects from the release last season. J.Stew stepped up properly and our running game didn't skip a beat from an aging Williams. Total business move.

-  Rescinding the franchise tag on Norman stung a bit and I don't see the problem in keeping a top-5 CB around on the FT for 1 more season, but it is what it is.  For me, that was Dave's time to put his foot down and demonstrate what kind of organization he was running here. Message received, Josh got his $$, we have three promising youngsters that will benefit from the front 7, at a much, much cheaper cost, and it shows that the Panthers have a blueprint within a budget.... no player is above the team.

That being said, the Short negotiations really need to end with KK signing a long-term deal here. Hopefully both sides are reasonable and want the same end result - Super Bowl rings and a dynasty run.

DG needs to flex his style a bit and lower the ego a tad, IMO.  His whole mantra is about the 'hog mollies' and winning from 'in the trenches'.  I believed a major motivating factor as to why Norman didn't get overpaid, was because Gettleman wanted to plunk his chips down on the defensive line.

Well, here's KK Short.  You drafted him in the 2nd round, you molded him, he's blossomed into an All-Pro defensive tackle and is fully in his prime at 27 ready to dominate for another 4-5 years. As long as it's not an outrageous asking price from Short's camp, this deal needs to get done. If we're not careful, it could soon start sending the wrong message about this franchise's attitude that: we'll draft you, turn you into a star player, but when it's time to pay, you're probably not getting the $$ you want here, so good luck.

We are still early in the process, and I agree that no 1 or 2 players are above the team.  That being said, it's getting dicey if we let another All-Pro player fly the coop due to monetary reasons.

all GM's have flaws.  Dave's are still relatively unknown.  Dave's ego could come up down the road and cause issues IMO....there are some small red flags on that

Yes, sometimes our greatest strengths are also closely linked to our greatest weaknesses.  Dave is taking big risks... letting J-NO walk, etc.   His confidence and chutzpah (that words should have DG's picture next to it in the yiddish dictionary...) excite me as a fan, but he is up on that tightrope as he said.  It's dangerous, but refreshing too.  Hopefully he has good people around him who can serve as a sounding board and not let his ego run unchecked.

Basically, if Gettleman and our scouts & coaches can keep finding and developing great raw talent we'll be fine.  It will hurt to see a bunch of homegrown stars go play elsewhere, but that might just be the price we pay for sustainable success.

I don't get why ''Gettleman's Ego'' keeps coming up...it's not ego, it's being realistic about player values, and what you can afford while trying to field and sustain what has developed into a superbowl caliber team in just three years.

Get off the ego hyperbole, it's not ego, it's common sense.

I don't get it, you'd think people would know that by now.

And you can bet he values KK A LOT, and will pay him accordingly. But if it's too egregious and KK is asking for COLOSSAL money that will hinder the team, Gman will find an alternative that will keep us competitive for years to come, with or without KK.

Here's how it gets done (and its something that J-No failed to make clear to his own agent):

KK needs to tell his agent to GET IT DONE.

If he doesn't, then we'll know which is more important to KK... playing for this team or the 'respect' of comparable NFL money.

Cam Newton isn't the highest paid QB in the league.

Luke Kuechly is the best defender in the league but NOT the highest paid defender in the league.

Gettleman today sent a clear message: "Its your call, KK."

Good points, but as long as DG has a backup plan, I don't see why he should need to cave to the agents.

KK is great, but if Vernon is as good as he is being advertised, I don't see why DG should throw all the salary cap in to one position (assuming Star and eventually Vern were to get extensions.)

We still have to find money for Turner, Norwell, KB, Bene, possibly Oher, and others. Big picture.

Here's the deal, Dave already has KK under contract for 3years @ 30 million.

Rough Salary

2016- 1 mill the end of a rookie contract

2017- 13 mill first franchise tag

2018- 16 mill second year tag

Now onto another big issue for KK/agents/crew- AGE. People are forgetting KK is currently 27 years old. I'm no NASA scientist but after each year you get older.

Why would Dave give into the current wild wild west of contracts, when currently hes has power? So if the agent wants 18 per and 60+ in guarantees , why would give into that given the years of salary in control and kks age?

It's a give and take. Agents wants 18 million plus, but KK is currently under contract for 1 million.

Agents-"unfair that's his rookie contract" .

dave- "  we used those years to give proper training/teaching  "

Agent- " I.."

Dave " excuse me, Alwhile we rotate DL here and put young players in the best situation to succeed. "

Agent- " but suh, Cox, dareus, Jackson are getting QB moneyz"

Dave " franchise tag is a bargain , even the 20% increase year two is given those deals"

Agent- " well I've NEVER!!! Leaves"

Dave stands up pants-less and wavies.

    • The division is most certainly wide open. The Bucs are a problem but Baker Mayfield is and will remain his own worst enemy it's a matter of when not if he has a bad game or even a stretch of bad games. As far as the Panthers they have done an admirable job of trying to address needs as best they can without pulling a Scott Fitterer and getting desperate which has only made us worse off in the past. On the Bryce subject all anyone can really say at this point is we just have to wait and see. This is the year and despite what the Panthers may say publicly doubling down and going all in on WR is as good as any sign anyone should need that they expect Bryce Young to have a very productive and convincing season. The pieces are in place. They aren't perfect but nothing ever will be. Regardless there's honestly no excuse for this staff and this team not to be able to compete in this iteration of the NFC South. Also just want to say this because I can say the hyper defensive posts already being made in here and it's probably going to be a season with highs and lows again but hopefully more highs for sure. But just because there is dialogue about a position group or a player that challenges your preconceived notions or makes you uncomfortable does not make it "hate" or "anti" this player or that player. For some people who talk a lot about nuance you would think this wouldn't need to be stated but that's where we're at.
    • If I was a coach I would preach "Don't let the refs decide the game" because as soon as you let the NFL the chance to help their bottom dollar whether it be teams that make most money or gambling then they will screw the team that doesn't fit their bottom line......is it rigged? No but do they try and make certain narratives happen abso-freakin-lutley. As I stated in a previous thread NFL players are the ones that SHOULD have all guaranteed contracts but the boot lickers on this forum disagree and argue for the billionaires in this world who own these teams, sheep
    • I wont go quite so far as to say games are rigged.  You wouldnt have to work hard to convince me there was the occasional thumb on the scale but outright rigged? nah.   but collusion on the rest of the "business" of football, sure.  No one really believes that the only time the 32 owners act as one is during the negotiations of the CBA do they?
