Ah, the old trade DA thread...

I hate to break it to folks, but DA is the most overrated player on this forum. He's a solid backup QB, nothing more nothing less. Hell, Shaun Hill has significantly higher career averages for completion percentage, yards per game, and QB rating than DA does.  Half of this forum acts like DA would be an All Pro if he wasn't Cam's backup.

He may be over rated by our fan base,, but he is one of the better back ups in the league. Like you said,, SOLID BACK UP,,

We all know every player is one play away from an injury,, even non contact ( KB last year, Cam's truck the year before ) . And I sure don't want Joe Webb being Cam's back up,,

With this offense and defense,, I do think DA  could get us upward to 9-10 wins,,  NFC SOUTH CHAMPIONS, and a roll of the dice chance in the playoff

Kurt Warner's coming in and taking hold of a team is just rare,

i understand that but i mean to get a all time great to go with our all time greats would be insane and we would be pretty much unstoppable

Also consider AP has a cap hit of 12M this year we would take on.  DA has a cap hit of just under 2M.  So we are down a backup that has value whom we cannot easily replace, and also absorb 10M more in salary for a RB.  Not sure DG is looking to add that kind of payroll for a RB, especially knowing we have KK, Star to sign again and also Trai, Norwell, maybe Remmbers to get paid down the road.

Not disagreeing with you it would be cool to have him, but this is DG we are talking about, he doesnt seem to roll on big trades and big name FAs with big contracts especially after he dug us out of one of a horrible cap situation a few years ago.

Dude, AP is washed up. He maybe has 1 good year left. He's a speed rusher, not a power rusher like Stew. You need to open up holes for him to thrive, and our O line hasn't proven that consistency.

Wat?!

Seriously, man, you can speculate that this is the year that he could wash out (like people have been doing for the last couple), but there has been absolutely nothing to suggest that AP, a.k.a AD, is washed up. Plus, he has never ever needed a line to open up holes for him. He has arguably never really had that luxury.

Regarding DA's trade value. I think it's decidedly overrated by Panthers fans. Sure he may be one of the better backups out there, but there's not a lot of trade capital for an older guy who only showed that he could possibly play on the big stage for one year. I mean, if we could get a 4th, I'd be ecstatic. That expectation is too high.

My post was primarily referencing the ridiculous trade value many fans think DA has.  I value him as a backup, but I don't think we could win 10 games or the division with him as our full-time starter.  We barely beat the Bucs twice with him starting during the season when the Bucs were the worst team in the league.

probably b/c the vikings run it more than any other team in the league and he got like a bijillion carries

He still had a respectable 4.5 per carry, even though most teams probably  considered him the primary threat.  He is still a very good running back.

That being said, I wouldn't trade for him, simply  because we don't know how much longer he will be a very good running back.

DA has shown he can fill his role quite well. It's a high risk to give that up, especially when we have a QB who will take more hits than your typical starter.

Honest question: Would you take Derek Anderson or Matt Ryan as your starting QB?

Ryan would need to bribe us by bringing Julio Jones with him.

Zero interest in trading DA.  I think he likes the situation he's in, and it has served Cam well.  Let's not forget that Cam's playing style is inherently dangerous.  A competent, content backup is very hard to find.  That's an apple cart I wouldn't want to disrupt on a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

    • Well even if we took diverging paths getting there...our overall assessment of Shough is the same (bolded) lol so I guess that's what matters.  What you call "playing at a level that looks like a veteran starter" is the same thing I'm referencing when I talk about his poise.  Although I still wonder how truly "bad" of a team the Saints are.  Their defense is middle-of-the-road, and their offense does have some good pieces (Olave, Juwan Johnson) outside of running back which is the position most everyone agrees is relatively plug-and-play.  I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the majority of NFL team's o-lines lol but I'm assuming Saints are not great there, although Shough's pressure % seems to have been quite low (and steadily improving) over the last four weeks (20 -> 16.7 -> 15.0 -> 13.0) so maybe they've been playing better as of late, or perhaps Shough himself deserves credit for that.   Some of the language I'm hearing about Shough, including talking about how he's way above league average in several categories, makes it sound like Shough is having a rookie season on par with like a CJ Stroud who established himself as basically a Top 5-10 QB his rookie season.  Maybe that's on me though, I don't mean to attribute anything to you that I'm sure you don't agree with.
    • Since your being selective (and somewhat deceptive) with your comparisons, I'll throw this up so we can compare apples to apples. Both Young and Shough have played against the Rams. Young went: 15/20 (75%) for 191 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs with a 147.1 QB rating Shough went: 15/24 (62.5%) for 176 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT with a 81.2 QB rating   Both Young and Shough have played against the Buccs. Young went: 21/32 (65%) for 206 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs with a 102.5 QB rating Shough went: 13/20 (65%) for 176 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT with a 65.4 QB rating   Both Young and Shough have played against the Falcons. Young went: 31/45 (75%) for 448 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs with a 123.2 rating Shough went: 30/43 (69.7%) for 243 yards, 0TD, 1 INT with a 74 QB rating   Seriously, in what world is Shough a better QB.
    • Freddie? For this game? Seriously? I don’t get it. Hope we get the best version of Freddie tonight.
