Christian McCaffrey's "Not Doing Anything Fun" During His Time Away From The Panthers; Working Extra Hard To Be Ready

Christian McCaffrey has often been compared as the offensive version of Luke Kuechly. His love for the game parallels Kuechly's, and his actions show it. McCaffrey has a relentless work ethic that just makes you love the kid.

Christian was unable to practice with the Panthers during OTAs due to a stupid NCAA rule that says players may not participate with their respective professional teams until their school term ends. However, McCaffrey made sure to not use that as an excuse to slack on football for a longer time.

In fact, you could argue he has been putting up as much work as any other Panther. McCaffrey explains just what he did in a recent article:

Quote

McCaffrey told David Newton of ESPN.com that other than going to a Rockies game one night while home in Colorado, his spring vacation has lacked action.

“I figure the guys on my team aren’t doing anything fun, so I’m trying to walk in and stay on their schedule,” McCaffrey said. “I’m trying to put myself as much in a situation as they’re in as possible.”

That’s left McCaffrey to watch practice film and talk on the phone often with running backs coach Jim Skipper, as he tries to stay caught up for his arrival for some portion of this week’s minicamp.

“I won’t be behind as far as the plays go in practice,” McCaffrey said. “Getting acclimated and comfortable with the team, I’ll be a little bit behind. But that will come. . . .

“It’s tough being away from a competitive atmosphere for that long, but I still push myself every day in my training and studies.”

Although Ryan Kalil and Cam Newton's IG do show the Panthers having a blast, it's still nice to see how seriously McCaffrey is taking this opportunity, and how much work he puts into the game. It's going to be nice to see this kid grow and make a name for himself.

Now everyone knows why I was so high on him for months before the draft. He comes from a great football family much like Peyton Manning did and he has the drive and desire of a kids who has lived and breathed football since he was old enough to play. It is literally in his genes......

Witness if you will, the 2035 Carolina Panthers coaching staff.  HC Luke Kuechly and OC Christian McCafferey, two of the most highly decorated players in NFL history trying to return their beloved franchise to the glory days when the Panthers won 3 Super Bowls in a row and 5 world titles in 7 years.  With Chosen Newton as the heir apparent at QB, the future looks bright...

All kidding aside, we all know down deep this kid is going to change everything.  He is the key...the Trinity is complete.

    • Said it last year as well and I’ll say again If we had drafted Stroud his 2023 season would’ve looked very similar to Young’s and I’m not sure he ever would’ve recovered. You saw some very concerning things last night as the game went on with footwork and pressure. The Texans have done a fantastic job of building around CJ and allowing for error given their defense. Last night was most likely a lot of people’s first time watching CJ this year. But once Slowik offense hit a wall so has CJ. Bobby Slowik absolutely cooked in 2023. A lot of open deep stuff for CJ which played to his strengths as he throws one hell of a pretty ball Its hasn’t been smooth sailing for CJ since that Bears game in 2024.
    • Our biggest problem is that we’ve already spent a lot of resources at corner (horn), O-line (Hunt snd Icky - 1st round early pick), WR (XL and McMillan), and RB (Hubbard).  Because of injuries and FA and XL, we have to compound investment in those positions again. Not good.
    • It would be worth it. The entire line plays better when he’s in the game and I don’t see him getting worked game after game. I saw our old center Bozeman getting destroyed against the Patriots which was funny to see.
