Marty Hurney comments on team depth today on WFNZ

Safety? He has a point.

DL? lulz... wtf? Maybe he's pining for the "deep" days of Fua and McLain.

WR? We still have no true #1 IMO, but depth-wise, I think we're fine with the addition of Shephard and Samuel (both of whom have that potential).

The current status of #3 TE doesn't keep me awake at night.

Marty never fielded a Panthers team with this much depth... ever in his ten years as GM.

In fact, other than his propensity to overpay players, Hurney's greatest weakness is likely his inability to field teams with even moderate depth.

He sounds like he knows what he is talking about....at least he talks to us...DG was too uppity to speak to actual fans

Not true, I spoke with DG on three separate occasions during his time here. Twice at RR's bowling event for the Ronald Mcdonald House and once at a blood drive at Levine Children's Hospital. At all three he engaged anyone that wanted to talk to him.

Just because you weren't a fan of the guy doesn't mean you need to spread fallacies about him.

Agree with this statement.  I thought DG was pretty much available for interviews and seemed to be accessible for the most part.  I will say Hurney seems to be doing an inordinate amount of interviews currently which may be creating the perception that he is more "approachable"  but I think the situation is driving that to a degree.

But in terms of what he (or any other GM) says during the interview I think you have to take it with a grain of salt.  Its mostly generic because you cant expect him to say "our 2nd string safeties all suck" or "If I could trade Ed Dickson for a bag of pop rocks and a coke I would jump at the chance"

yea. it's funny how he mentions DL since we were so depleted there in the years leading up to his departure. like derek landri was the most productive lineman on the team besides charles johnson in 2010.

and lol about safety. this is the same guy who started marquand manuel and deke cooper after mike minter retired during the summer of 07. hurney never displayed a sense of knowing exactly what the hell a safety is supposed to do on the field or any kind of urgency to create some depth and competition at those positions.

I member Matt Willig.

You can not have depth on every position group, but this darn near close. Minus backup LT, safety, the other groups are well stocked. If you want to nick pick the deep side #3 TE, #5 WR #4 DT #3 outside CB, but that's extremely unfair.
