A little ownership news

One other thing from Tim Weaver in USA Today, answering a reader's question...

Quote

At this point nobody knows exactly who is going to buy Jerry Richardson’s stake in the team – projected to be worth around $2.3 billion according to Business Insider. Richardson may ask for up to $3 billion but he isn’t likely to get it. Several industry experts are predicting somewhere between $2.5-2.8 billion will change hands in the team’s sale.

Asking for 3 billion would probably be a tad nuts, but somewhere between 2.3 and 2.8 billion might happen.

Weaver also has said that there's "many prospective buyers" interested in the Panthers right now.  Local sources have said six or more but we really only know for certain about two (three if the DeBartolo story were to pan out).

Hopefully more to come soon...

I know none of y’all know the brothers personally, but for those familiar with them, are they the type that could come in and want to move us? Vegas to Charlotte is a big change haha...could they handle residing in Charlotte or the Carowinds area depending on if that’s where the best bet is to build a new stadium?

Maybe, but you have to consider that there are a very limited number of markets that would be comparable to ours, and none that are anymore intriguing to live in, maybe with the exception of San Diego.

Viewership numbers are actually in steep decline now. They cashed in on their two megastars. It was smart business, but WME got hoodwinked big time.

For sure but it's what they wanted. They wanted razzle dazzle and got it. It's the same problem the NFL has how with there storylines. Hard core fans are leaving because of it. It might not be fun for the casual fan to watch Anderson Silva dominate but that's combat sports and what hard core fans paid for.

As to the story, I'm kinda hoping this is a "first raindrop".

You always feel one raindrop before a bunch more.  Maybe this little bit of news about the sale will be the first trickle of a lot more information.

We can always hope.

Voth was talking about Fertitta being a bidder on the team last week so it's taking awhile for this rainstorm to get here.

GM news and sale of the team might come back to back though so hope people have their umbrellas ready.

Just want someone local with Carolina/Charlotte in mind to buy the Panthers.

That would be nice but I'm prepared for it to be someone we've never heard of and the possibility that they move the team in the near future.   If that happens I'm done with the NFL.

Why re so many wanting to buy the Panthers.... but not interested in the Titans?

Because the Titans are  only selling 1/3 of the team. They’re just looking for a minority investor to purchase .33 of the team. Nobody’s going to pay 600 million and have no say in how things are run or decisions that are made.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
