Tidbits from my source

Yeah my source said we tried to trade Cam for Crabtree and they turned it down bc they don’t like players with middle names starting with J.

Op, your source is either trolling you, or you’re trolling us. Raiders would never turn down a 5th and opt for nothing

None of us really have any idea about the “source” cited above. But, I don’t think the Crabtree story is implausible.

Does anyone know how much time he had left on his deal with the Raiders? Was he still owed any guaranteed money?

Torey Smith was traded to us with only one remaining on his deal, and no guaranteed money. We owe him 5 million if he plays, but nothing if we cut him.

If Crabtree was in a similar situation perhaps he didn’t want to move out east knowing he could be cut and come out on the short end of a trade.

He got a 3 year/$21 million deal in Baltimore. $11 million is guaranteed with 15 million due over the first two years. He’s 30 and maybe he doesnt have as many reservation moving east knowing that he’s going to at worst walk with $11-$15 million in a Baltimore.

I do wonder why the Raiders didn’t want to trade him. I’d rather have an extra 5th round pick this year than to  lose him for nothing. It sounds crazy, but maybe they just wanted to do right by him and let pick his next destination.

There were two years left on his contract. It doesn't matter how much was guaranteed as the trading team eats the signing bonus anyway when a player is cut or traded. It doesn't matter what he wanted, he's under contract and the Raiders could trade that contract if they had offers on the table.

I think it's highly likely they wamted to trade him, they just couldn't find anyone to take the bait who was willing to take on Crabtree's contracted salary.

Yeah, that makes 0 sense. If released they get no compensation and I’m pretty sure they’d take a 5th even if Crabtree would be upset about going East.

Y’all do understand that some teams care about the players and understand while this is a business, they aren’t dealing with livestock. Unless they got a great offer they were willing to let Crabtree choose his next stop. Classy move. Same reason Bill didn’t just ship Jimmy G to the Browns.

    • The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.
    • Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault?  Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything.  People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB.  Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.
