Fair point.  I just think it's premature for him to start bragging about him when he hasn't even seen the full training camp or played a preseason game.

I mean, what are they supposed to say?  “He might not be good, we’ll see.”?

He sure did---it was a head scratcher.  But maybe that was to save face for a stupid draft pick.  There is no agenda for promoting a UDFA.

I never thought Rivera was much about face saving, though you'd have more insight there than I would.

My take on Rivera has always been that he likes underdogs and "try hard" guys way too much. Maybe that's because he was that kind of player back in his Bear days. Don't know.

It might be distasteful, but sometimes the talented guy who doesn't try as hard is the better choice then the high character guy who's giving it all he's got.

That's just reality.

Hurney falls in love with "what could be" sometimes that he doesn't see the obvious.  there's a reason this guy wasn't drafted.

There’s a reason Norwell wasn’t drafted, now he’s the highest paid lineman in the NFL

He is also impressed with Amini.

Yep and second round at that

I was on vacation in Hawaii. Early mornings there and when I heard Hurney drafted Amini in the second rd, I tuned the tv off and had a very vodka laden Bloody Mary

amini would not be picked up by anyone if he was cut right now

We all like to find that "diamond in the rough."  Marty has screwed up when he digs for diamonds in the draft.  Armanti Edwards stands out.  Maybe Silatolu, but he had a second-round grade on many boards.  Fua?

But also: Josh, Cap, and Hardy

Sometimes he misses but other times he's spot on.

Just when he missed before in the past that usually cost us future picks. Aimini doesn't sting as much as Armanti

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
