The fact that Amini was given the advantage in the battle for the LG spot is criminal.

Anyhow, seems Greg Van Roten’s doing a hell of a job out there. Blocks two guys.

Also shoutout to Taylor Moton for also making a key block on that play. He’s also making sure we have zero worries about the RT spot.

Not gonna lie it’s so depressing that this offense would literally be perfect on paper if it weren’t for LT.

We will scheme around our LT deficiencies

 

we will be a smart offense getting the ball out quickly to our speedy yac WRs

 

its preseason so of course we are doing vanilla offense, not tipping our hand. we wont see our fast pace offense until week 1. Cam wont be chilling back there in the pocket for long. We arent designig plays to get guys open to make ourselves feel good. We are putting our deficiencies out there so we can identify exactly what they are. this is a practice game. dont just practice the stuff you are good at.

Things rarely go perfectly as scripted in the NFL though. Obvious passing situations are going to occur. And when they do... oh wee mayne. Kalil is going to be a liability. Anytime you're forced to scheme around an obvious liability it lessens your options and makes you more predictable.

This offense has incredible potential with the truly stacked skill players we have and an OC who is actually deserving of the title.

All we need is for Matt Kalil to be just average. Unfortunately I'm not sure he can be. Robert Quinn is a good edge rusher, but he was beating Matt six ways to Sunday. 

And not that it would be acceptable, but at least it would be understandable if this was an undrafted player being forced into action. Kalil was a top 10 pick whom we are paying as such. And he wasn't even to the level of being a speed bump on a couple of plays.

Cam will get hurt at some point this year if he takes blind side shots like he did from Quinn tonight with any regularity.

Kalil should be playing better than this if he is healthy. That tonight was embarrassing, both in execution and in some respects in effort I believe.

We really don't have any other option except to pay (and play) him this year. Maybe his brother can light a fire under his ass.

Otherwise he is going to single handedly wreck what could truly be a thing of offensive beauty.

You cant be perfect everywhere. Matt will be fine once a game plan is developed. Hard to go against Quinn when they are running stunts and play calling is based purely on feel rather than scouting.

Still not completely sold on Van Roten as a pass blocker, but he looked really good run blocking in the game

This may also be a reason he's jumped ahead of Larsen for that LG spot. Larsen is better at pass protection than run blocking. Hell, at this point, I'm ready to try Larsen at LT. Couldn't be worse.

I am starting to think some of the Huddle would be an improvement over our current LT.
