Panthers RT Daryl Williams is present and will work on side with athletic trainers. A source said 2 weeks ago that “probably a good chance” Williams began season on IR w idea he’d return in 8 weeks. But wonder if Kalil injury/so far DW’s successful rehab changes outlook of that.

Kalil's situation should have no impact on Daryl's timeline. Rushing him back before he's ready wouldn't be good for him or the Panthers.

Was going to say the same thing. Williams has turned into a really solid RT, no need to destroy what we have by rushing him back a few weeks too soon.

If Williams is nothing more than an average RT . . . he's more player than half the league has in that spot.  Let's not get him hurt.  If it means he misses the first month of the season, fine, so long as he's 100% healthy when he comes back.

I was literally watching T Davis at OTAs running through a drill when he fell and rolled backwards.  A few minutes later, he was walking off the practice field toward the stadium with a trainer.  He was barely limping.  It was his second knee injury.

Point?  walking takes linear movement and not lateral.  If the injury impedes lateral movement and not linear, he may not walk funny.

This Kalil/Williams situation might not be as bad as we think......

  • 8 weeks from when Williams went down is Sept 23rd.
  • Our 3rd regular season game is the 22nd, and then our bye week. Week 4 game vs. the NYG is on Oct. 7th. DW would be 10 weeks removed from injury at this point.
  • Kalil going down could potentially put the better OT out there (Moton) instead of trotting out the hot garbage that the lesser Kalil is, due to financial reasons.
  • For the week four game vs NYG, we trot out: Moton-Van Roten-Kalil-Turner-Williams.

After seeing that crappy week four bye earlier in the summer, we all cringed, but it could now prove to be a blessing in disguise. Three games without Williams and then, hopefully, he is back at RT making that right side incredibly strong.

Any chance the coaching staff moves Moton to LT now and rotate Sriles/Kalil at RT, with the intent of moving both to back-up roles once DW returns? Is that too much of a reach asking Kalil to play RT?

Lack of antalgic gait doesn’t equate to ready to return to play. Let’s not get overly excited about this. I am still optimistic about a return later this season, however.

Actually, in regards to a multi-ligament knee injury, a lack of pathological gait is a fantastic sign of recovery.

Here is a good article about it: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2953341/
