I suspect at least one if not both of those guys would not be on the roster right now if the fat bastard was still calling the shots.  My theory is that there were several of old JR's favorites in jeopardy of being replaced and that was the last straw.

Possibly Ryan, but there was no way out of Matt's deal this year without slaughtering our cap. It's still going to hurt like hell if (when) we do it next year.

I just hope in a couple of years that we aren't looking back and forced to swallow the bitter pill of having to admit that we re-signed the wrong guy.

Reminds me of when we broke the bank for Dan “concussion” Morgan and lost Will Witherspoon.

Regarding Norwell, it isn't so much about THEM as it is their contracts.Tyan greatly limits us this year, Matt greatly limits us next year and in '20.

I just say that was JRs last FU. We could have gotten out of Matt's contract next year if Hurney didn't slam that door shut for what seemed like for no good reason.

Would you please stop repeating this lie? Hurney made the only sensible decision he could with the terms of the original contract. And this has been explained to you many times before. What agenda would make you keep repeating something you know to be false.

So far looks like we paid the wrong og in turner, cutting kalil should have been the decision this offseason, and possibly using that money to resigned norwell, honestly should have gotten the deal done before the season or during it in 2017. Either way not the biggest lost but one that could have been avoided

Why?  Because he might miss this weekend's game?  If so, that is only his 4th missed start in 50 games.  Hardly makes him injury prone.

Please all you grown ass men. Stop bitching & moaning about everything. Geez! Bunch of cry babies, probably breeding a bunch of bitches too. Didn’t have the money plain & simple. Never been a Hurney guy, but he made the right call.

You are right, people forget the small details that make things happen.

1 game and guys with jump to beat their agenda/view without reasonably thinking.

Hindsight is like that.  At the time, we made the right choice.  Re-signing Trai, at that time, was the smart move.

Also, had we signed Norwell this offseason - and I have no idea where the money comes from - we would not be in any sort of position to sign Williams or Moton in the coming years.  FFS.  Yea, Norwell was good . . . but you can't wrap all that money up in one position like that.

I just wish Gman had extended him before he got to his last season and knew he could cash in if he stayed healthy.

You don't extend bargains that early and plus Norwell switched agents for a reason. He signed with the biggest agent in the sport that is known to get his athletes paid.

Norwell played the game right when you go undrafted: put your nose in the dirt, work hard, and go to the highest bidder when that time comes.

    • IDK how we go from good player for good player trade suggestions to dumpster fire bust for dumpster fire bust trade suggestions. Even though Coleman is better, he has a littany of motivation and discipline issues. Do we think milquetoast Dave is gonna fix that??
    • I am not worried about the contracts because any/all can be jettisoned in 2027 with minimal ramifications. I would like to land him because you rarely ever see an elite, 25 year old center hit free agency, this is a very weak center class and Mays is a bottom quarter starting center(love him as a utility IOL).  Ideally this offseason we solve center and draft a high caliber RT/LT to fill the gap for Ikey. Then next offseason, pending outcome of the rookie and Ikey's recovery you can jettison Hunt(VASTLY overpaid), make a determination on Ikey's ability to play(perhaps extend him on the franchise tag as a "prove it"), and let the Ikey/rookien situation dictate Moton. He can be extended on a LOWER cost deal or jettisoned if Ikey and the rookie can take the reigns. Either way, both OT's will need to be resolved, we need an actually starting caliber NFL center again and we need to get rid of one of these OG's. Hunt is the obvious choice as Lewis is substantially better across the board and cheaper.
    • That's not a thing. If they can't find someone, they either aren't actually trying or it's a poisonous job and no one will.  Yes, plenty of them have gone with whom they wanted already. That's not really the point of the rule. It's to force teams to provide opportunities. It has worked well because coaches that wouldn't normally be given interviews are given that experience and teams have also been impressed enough to either offer them in the future or pass positive comments along to other NFL owners/front office personnel.  Also, we are over 20 years into the Rooney Rule. This isn't some new thing teams have to navigate.
