Head Coach Rankings

Stumpy

Recommended Posts

When we launched Head Coach Ranking in 2017, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was the only coach to earn a perfect score of 10 for a single week. Not a surprise, considering Belichick is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.

Anybody wanna guess where ole Riverboat ranks...?

That list is laughable, and I'm mad at myself for wasting life in my life looking at it...

Rivera has proven himself to be a Top 10 Coach, and by even the harshest measurement, above average.

You don't win Coach of the Year 2x and take a team to the SB and the playoff 4 out of the last 5 years being the 24th best coach in the league

Well, Ron has been playing the hell out of Stone Hands Smith with rookie DJ Moore sitting around with his thumb up his ass.  That's got to knock him down several pegs, especially if we're living in the moment and not looking at the full body of work.  Because if that's the case, why would any first year HC be ranked higher?  Plus, he's a defensive coach whose defense has shown severe lapses so far this season.  I wouldn't go as low as they have him but he's slightly below average at best.

HCR is run by Craig Ellenport. Ellenport is a journalist that has not coached a SINGLE game of college or professional football.

The only thing that separates his opinion from the rest of the huddles is that he knows how to use their, there, and they’re correctly.

Additionally, the system HCR uses is INCREDIBLY flawed.

Coaches are graded on play calling, personnel utilization, game planning, in-game adjustments, and clock management. The coach then receives a grade ranging from 1-10 in each of the five areas previously mentioned. The total number is then divided by five and that is the coaches “grade”.

The grading system considers all areas equal which is one of the most simplistic and dumbest grading “algorithms” that I have ever seen.

HCR is worse than PFF.

    • Are you arguing that his height deficiencies and footwork within the pocket have not been a present issue clearly seen on his game tape particularly in the games he struggled in? Because that's simply denying what everyone in this fanbase who have watched the games have seen. It's interesting how hardline BY fans here quickly and effortlessly pivot from whailing about being victimized to becoming the aggressor and hurling out allegations of bias and hatred. And at the end of the day while Bryce Young clearly improved significantly from the first two games of the season the reality of the situation is he still finished 42nd in yards per pass attempt behind Mac Jones and tied with Caleb Williams and 38th in passing yards per game behind the likes of Gardner Minshew Aidan O'Connell Drake Maye and Will Levis. Furthermore it took Bryce Young 23 games to surpass Panthers legend Kyle Allen's 13 games worth of passing yardage in 2019. So if your argument is he became a head and shoulders better passer over the course of the second half of the season the reality is we're still waiting to see that growth this season. And there is nothing controversial or vitriolic about saying so in the mind of a rational
    • Cam regularly threw for less than 200 yards and nobody questioned he was elite. He averaged 219 yds per game for his career.  You seem to be way too hung up on yards as a stat.  By that definition Jameis Winston should have been MVP by now.
    • So... what metrics for production do you believe display these issues/limitations best? Are we only using total passing yards, height, and weight thresholds? If so, then what are those thresholds?
