Why has Cam been the worst QB in football on deep passes this year?

Going 1 for 13 is too small of a sample size for you?

That's less than 3 attempts per game. Yes, that's too small. That's about 7.5% of our total passes. I'd be curious to know how many of those were in pretty much desperation situations when the D was playing to prevent the deep ball.

I quit being a Cam supporter after the super bowl. I could tell that we were going to lose that game in the 2nd quarter because he was already pouting.

I have never seen anyone so void of a personal identity that edgelording becomes such a desperate gambit to be known for something

This can't be true, the TD to Funchess against the Redskins was more than 20 yards in the Air.

That was actually a pretty poor pass too. Funchess has two or three steps on the DB and was forced to come back and Moss the guy because the ball was 3 yards under thrown.

A similar play happened in a near identical position on the field when Samuel had his guy beat on a go route and Cam back shouldered the throw and brought the DB back into play.

we've barely thrown it past the 15 yard line...

I'm counting Cam at 16/37 in passes of 15 yards or longer, with 2 picks and 2 TDs.

For your consideration, I am also clocking him as 67/83 in PASSES LESS THAN 5 YARDS, INCLUDING BEHIND THE LOS, lol. We're also at 6 TDs and one pick in that range.

Basically, we pass less than 5 yards almost two and a quarter times more than we throw it more than 15.

I get that we've built a stable of YAC guys. But we don't play those guys enough to justify these numbers.

the excuses will flow like menstruation in this thread.

But the truth is he has no more excuses. He has one of the greatest OC's in league history. He has several speedy WR's that can get open deep. He has a solid offensive line that hasn't let him get hit hardly at all.

LMAO

He's not making all the right reads. He doesn't want to turn the ball over. Smith hasn't helped in the least as the deep threat can't get separation. plus, olsen has been out. But still, there's something going on with that shoulder and even last year and in the preseason, the deep passes weren't accurate. He's just heaving it up there. I'm watching Rodgers just heave it up last night and at least they fall into place. Cam really hasn't ever had touch on the ball but something is hiding and if we tank this season, you can bet that'll be an excuse going into next year. Luck is not the same either.

Cam is not good any more on longer passes I don’t know why but it certainly limits us

By my previous numbers, it would mean that Cam is 39/50 in passes from 6-14 yards.

That means his completion percentage in each range:

Behind LOS-5 yards - 80%
6-14 yards - 78%
15+ yards - 43%

I think this is because of a few things:

1. We run too many out routes.
2. We rarely pass in between the hash marks.
3. Our WRs that are getting PT can't run open routes.
4. We stopped using CMC as a receiver out of the backfield, which would help out or WRs.
5. Cam still has the occasional overthrow.

When 51% of your passes are for 5 yards are less, it is kinda hard to stretch the field and take the pressure off your run game, too. Teams are just going to stack our box every game until we start stretching the field more.

I suspect they're all already keying on CMC so much because we're using him way too much and they know our game is the short game. TBQH This is 100% on Ron and Norv.

Cam missed CMAC plain and simple. That said, we aren't taking any deep shots this year and my guess is Norv. Cam is much improved in the short to intermediate routes, which is where we needed him to improve. It is funny how one drive changes the perception on a player. Cam played great for much of that game. The INT was a 3rd and long and a punt if not picked (at least I believe without stat checking).

Having a patchwork O-Line that can't get Cam enough time to even throw medium passes doesn't help.

What? The oline has been average for the first few games and is trending upwards very quickly as of now, week 6. They’re doing surprisingly very well. I’m interested in what you’re looking at to say this?

Recievers are getting open, although they’re also making boneheaded moves (tipping it for INT, fumbles etc.)

Number 1 rushing yards in the league.

I honestly can’r really say why Cam has having accuracy issues with the longer passes, but it should be obvious for anyone who has watched him for his career there is certainly a decline. I never thought the injury affected him too much but maybe I was wrong.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
