No problem signing him more long-term just limit the signing bonus and use option and roster bonuses which aren't fully guaranteed. You can use incentives to reward success and limit exposure if he struggles. If he want huge money and a huge guaranteed amount, then move on.

Frankly, I'd rather us get a bonafide LT in the draft or even an eventual replacement for Kalil in 3-4 round of and leave Moton @ RT. I think Moton can excel on the right side and the more continuity and stability on the OL the better IMO.

I think Moton is a bonafide LT.

Having him man that spot lets us use the top pick on a pass rusher and use a lower pick on a right tackle if Williams can't go.

What makes me wonder....

I doubt Moton is moved to LT  or he would have been moved to LT this year.  However, if Moton can play as well at RT as Williams, then they may see  RT as an area where money can be saved, if only for a season.

If the plan was to move Moton to LT, it would seem they would be in communications with Williams--maybe?  Moton gives the Panthers leverage.  He did not give them leverage when dealing with Kalil last season--just a thought.

Moton wasn't moved to LT because of Williams and Clark was better on the left versus the right. Moton in his limited work at left tackle did great. They aren't in communication with Williams because they are meeting to evaluate everyone and formulate their plan. The season isn't over yet and free agency is not here yet. There is plenty of time to negotiate a contract

who is going to invest big money in a OT coming off a major knee injury? i mean other than the home team.

How often does a young tackle hit the market that was voted all pro a year ago? It does not happen very often which is why even with a knee injury he will get paid big. He has been out almost all season and has plenty of time to recover by the start of next season. I hope we can re sign him and put Moton on the left...it will be the most talented tackles we have ever had but unfortunately Kalils contract may not allow that with as many holes as we have, and limited cap space with all the players we have to replace/upgrade

If he signs a long-term contract this year, it will likely be for much less money than he could have gotten before he was injured AND less money than he could get if he signed a 1-year, make-good deal and hit the market the following year.

In other words, someone would have to throw stupid money at him for him to consider a multi-year deal and I just don't see that happening. I'd say there is a better chance he re-signs with the Panthers for one year.

Just interviewed on WFNZ

Said his recovery is going good.

Loves the Panthers and Charlotte  but wants to do whats best for him and his family in FA

Said the Panthers and his Agent have not spoken yet.

So he wants to be paid after being out all year, ouch.  I'd like him back if healthy but hell to the no at dropping big money on him.  Let him test the waters, in the mean time lets draft us some linemen.

Im sure he'll test the waters.  And good for him, cant ever fault the guy.  But bet he is going to get sticker shock on his value and probably come back here imo

It all hinges on the medical prognosis of his knee IMO. If it checks out and there's no future concerns, pay the man like a top RT. He's proven to be one and if the knee is clean he's going to get that $$$ from someone.

I can't blame Williams for wanting to cash in. As a mid-round pick he hasn't made mega-bucks yet and coming off of a season ending injury he well understands how quickly your career can be derailed by injury in this sport. He's gotta cash in on this deal if he can.
