Panthers had Grier ahead of Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones

This kid’ll be better than DA was for us for years, nobody really had an issue with him in that role. We knew he couldn’t carry a season, but were confident he was decent navigating for a game or 2...

know a few WVU fans, they said the kid’s solid...

i don’t know enough to say one way or the other, just gonna wait & see what the kid does when his number’s called, hopefully it’s a positive result.......

Well Daniel Jones is ass and Kyler Murray belongs on the yellow brick road so that makes sense.

In all seriousness I watched Jones twice this year against two sub 100 defenses in UNC and WF and he looked like complete dog poo. His accuracy is down right atrocious and his only saving grace is that his pocket awareness is decent.

You ain't heard nothin' yet, brother.

Home town kid?

Existing hate for Cam by a significant portion of the Carolina fanbase?

Like I said, you ain't heard nothin' yet.

yeah it is going to be unbearable. Cam is going to have to hit 100% of his passes, go 16-0, and it might be enoughtto shut some of these folks up.

didn't hear that can you elaborate a bit?

Josh Parcells was asking Gantt for some hidden tidbits from the draft. The first one he threw out was that as far as potential quarterbacks, Grier was "the man" that the Panthers wanted. He was unequivocal about that.

Now you might figure that some of those guys are expected to be out of reach, but Drew Lock, for example, they definitely could have had.

Unfortunately this is true, I like grier but this statement along could make him a toxic pick the moment Cam messes up.

It was time to get a backup who COULD takeover if need be but the good ole boys have been waiting for this to come.

If you're looking from a mix of intangibles, mechanics, and resume, (1) Lock (2) Haskins (3) Grier (4) Murray holds water for rankings.  Murray is a 5'11 college system QB.  I won't say he's an immediate bust but he's as big of a risk as Daniel Jones was IMO.  Haskins, Grier and Lock are able to produce just as much as either of those first 2 taken.

Honestly, that kid from Auburn looks just as good as the crop.  I just think Grier has an edge to him along with Haskins.  Lock, Jones, Finley, etc. don't seem like anything more than a Gabbert or Hackenberg.

True dat and lol at all the credit he gets for Cam at #1. So, the QB you selected at pick 48 (and would have used a 1st if you had one) the year before was so bad that you got the #1 overall pick, but you somehow beat everyone to the top QB in the draft. Congratulations?

Yea, all true except while many places mocked Cam to Carolina, he wasn't the top rated QB in the draft by a long shot for most of the draft process. Didn't show well at the combined, had a much better pro day.  Hell even a bunch of people on here didn't want him.

On top of that, most draft experts thought that QB class was going to be horrible with no franchise players. So yea them vetting Cam and taking a chance on him deffinitely  deserves credit.

    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
    • There's a reason Greg Maddux was never a flamethrower but still one of the most feared pitchers of all time, because accuracy beats velocity far more often then vice versa. Once you exceed a certain minimum capability, you can thrive with extreme traits elsewhere, its not strictly about power in any sport but powerlifting.
