Do we have the best defensive line in football

Recommended Posts

According to the huddle no one is underperforming on the Dline.

Yet in reality it’s hindering the Panthers immensely to have that money invested and be one of the worst dlines in football in 2018.

Even before McCoys contract the Panthers were top paid dline and rank in the bottom 5 in almost every category.

The allocation of cap space has to add up. Has to produce on the field. They took a year off last year.

Shitty coaching. Star leaving. Whatever the reason if you have that much investment in the dline and they produce like last year, you’re set up for failure.

We have Butler and Love. We picked up a few guys with a little experience this off season in Qualls, Barnes, Hamilton and Vaeao. What team has more depth behind their 3-4 lineman that that?  Sure the setup is unproven but numbers wise there is no lack of 3-4 DL depth at all.

All of the unknown factors bring me to my conclusion. If you wanna call us the best D line in the league before the season starts then go ahead I'm not gonna stop you lol.

Probably in the conversation. In that top tier. Off top of my head, 49ers are going to be pretty loaded with Buckner, Bosa, and Ford.  Bears with Goldman and Hicks (also hard to ignore Mack/Smith/Floyd/Trevathan behind them...lol). Our depth is going to make a huge difference, very deep this year with Love and Butler rotating in.

Proven?  Prob not

But its oozing with potential. Especially considering the entire front 7, and Rivera calling plays

If all the pieces come together like I think they are, I think we will have the #1 defense in the NFL and that all starts up front

Is that a new Dillon pic?  Don’t recognize it

Definitely in the conversation.  On paper we have the best and deepest interior Dline (McCoy, Poe, Short, Love, and Butler).  Any team in the league would love to have that group.

On the edge, we have 2 solid guys in Addison and Irvin, but no superstars.

We do have a lot of potential there with Burns, Miller, Haynes, Obada, and Cox, Jr.

We certainly could be the best defensive line in the league, but this year's schedule will certainly test them.  In a year where in addition to having to go against Brees & Ryan twice, we also get Watson, Rodgers, Wilson, and Luck thrown in there.  And the other QB's aren't pushovers either (Goff, Winston, Murray, Foles, Garrapolo, Mariota, and Haskins).

If we end up the year the number 1 defense, we will have earned it...

I believe this year's team is as talented as any under Rivera on paper.  The first goal is to win the division, but no matter what, if we make the playoffs we will be battle tested.

We'll see. We have a lot of potential there, but for that potential to he fulfilled Poe and Short have to play up to their abilities. They didn't last season for whatever reason.

Agree on Poe, but disagree on Short. He's been largely effective, but because Poe sucked so much, teams literally doubled or focused all their attention on Short without consequence.

They no longer have that luxury with McCoy on the line.
