ESPN Roster Talent Rankings by PFF

Ranking the 2019 rosters for all 32 NFL teams

 

The Panthers come in at a mind-boggling Number 21. Upon inspection of the players used in the rating to determine the Panthers overall score, I figured out that ESPN utilized Chris Hogan and Torrey Smith rather than Curtis Samuel and Jarius Wright. 

I'm not sure of either of the latters scores but I'd assume they are better than Smith's (58.4) and Hogan's (55.2) PFF Grades.

The problem with any comparison is that the best teams find the combination of their players is better than the talent of each individually.  A perfect example was the Panthers in 2015 where we supposedly had the worst receiving group in the league. They played much better than that as a unit.  But PFF doesn't rate chemistry or potential simply scores taken from last year which could have little to do with this year. If Cam is 100% anyone think he will be improved over last year?

21st is absolutely absurd.

Sure he would. But the Panthers likely are higher in the rankings when you use Samuel and Wright instead of Smith and Hogan. Whomever compiled this list is completely bereft of knowledge of our expected depth chart for 2019.

I mean we were 7-9 last year and picked 16th in the draft. At BEST, based on last year's performance record-wise at least, we should be #18. There were quite a few bad games to bog down our ratings at the end of the year. 

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of room for hope and I expect a much better season compared to last year, but based on last year's performance, we're right around where we should be ranked.

Don’t really give a fug about anything from ESPN. They’re almost as bad as the ridiculous political shows that nobody watches

I think their rankings are more based on player's Q ratings than actual play ratings. 

Also, completely based on last year's performance and, aw, who cares? It's ESPN which just regurgitates any sports related crap like a Zergnet Buzzfeed clickbait site.

Happens all the time. Sports media looks at roster & stats but doesn't know ANYTHING about the players personally, whereas we do & know we're so much better than 21st. Team chemistry is so much more valuable than stats & talent.

It’s just click bait. The only roster that matters is the one that wins the Super Bowl.

you can have a team of nobody and smurfs, has beens never was etc that win the Super Bowl and they should be PFF number 1.

the most “talented” that wins the fewest games is the PFF loser.
