Panthers uneasy with Gano

We should be. He hasn’t kicked most of preseason and a regular season game is in two weeks. I know we won’t cut him because it doesn’t do anything with the cap but I’m also anxious about Slye taking over if we put gano on IR. We really botched this situation.

Like I said in the other thread, I think the situation is playing out where we carry two kickers on the very first 53 and then immediately IR Gano with designation to return.  Slye does well, Gano stays on IR.  Slye crashes and burns, we bring Gano back when he's healthy and cut Slye.

If Slye does really well for the entire season, we then cut Gano next spring.

Yep. Seems like a pretty likely scenario IMO.

Best case... But that fact alone leaves most of us feeling it won't happen lol I fear I am seeing Butker all over again

Are we limited with the amount of guys we can bring back from IR? I hate to burn one of those on a kicker.

Lol. Water is wet.

It is good to see they are actually considering this. We messed up already and let a really good kicker go. I'm hopeful they can make a better decision this time. I do not feel the same confidence as last time we had this possibility, I was a lot more certain last time.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
