What is the trade value of Cam in 2020?

Recommended Posts

Likely not much unless a team wants him bad enough to not want to negotiate on the open market. I would imagine most teams have the view that we will get rid of him(which I do not believe) so they wouldn't see a reason to trade for him. That said, we have seen some pretty crazy trades recently in the NFL.

I think most good GM's are going to be a little reticent to invest a bunch of future draft capital in a guy that has such a long recent injury history. Now if he does come back under his last contract year and plays well/stays healthy, I think his market could potentially be extreme.

If some GM out there wants Cam bad enough, and thinks that a healthy Cam Newton is the missing piece of their team, someone would most definitely throw us some very nice compensation in return.  A smart GM would make the trade for Cam before he was put on the open market.  No guarantee you get him if that happens.  At least with a trade you know you are getting who you want.

If they try and trade him before the draft, and I would think they would, you might get something like a 3rd or 4th round pick in the 2020 draft and then a conditional pick in the 2021 draft.  Maybe a 4th that can move all the way up to a 1st.  That way if he is still hurt next year you only had to give up a 3rd and 4th to get him so something, but not a ton.  But if he is healthy and can play, we get 1st in the 2021 draft.  Probably a lower 1st but still a 2nd first round pick is nice to have.  That way it only cost the team trading for him a lot if his is healthy and if he is not it is a much lower cost for them.

Yeah but a lot of that is going to hinge on if they believe he will stay healthy.

I'm sure Kyle Allen would be thrilled some Trump rally attending mouth breather like yourself is hiding behind his image littering trash everywhere.

WTF kind of trash is this?  Why is anyone bringing up politics here?

Not sure what the beef between you two is, but take the political poo elsewhere.

Same thing I said yesterday, low 2 or a 3.

As Scot said earlier, it will take a very specific scenario for a trade to happen, and then Cam has to pass a physical....and we haven't even talked about what to do with the contract/extension that he would likely want.

Not one single person has said that Kyle Allen is better than a 100% healthy Cam Newton.  We all know that is absurd.  Thing is though, we dont have a 100% healthy Cam Newton.  Havent had him for quite some time now

You are quite wrong.  There has been a strong following here stating that even if Cam Newton were to come back 100% healthy he should still be benched for Kyle Allen.

Cam Newton is worth no less than two first round draft picks.

He's in the middle of his career, on a team who has misused and abused him over the years, and recovering from two mishandled injuries.

Franchise QBs are a hot commodity, and teams that have been floundering for years without one or striking out on one will pay the price.

Very little but desperation causes people to do crazy things. I can't imagine anyone would make an enticing enough of an offer for us to trade him based on last nine games and the uncertainty factor. Best case for us is to give him a chance to return healthy if he even wants to do that.

If we don’t get a good return, then there is no need to trade him. His price will be average for a starter with Grier and Allen being cheap. His risk/reward wouldn’t be worth trading unless we get a nice haul. I was thinking a 1st plus another player/3rd.

As our fearless leader noted, Cam is most likely done in Carolina. Moving past that... what is Cam's trade value on a 1 year deal in 2020? Will a team bite or will we have to cut him?

We should cut him and take the comp pick if we cannot get a fourth rounder or better:

Trade:: 4th rounder, we control the team who gets him, and we get $21m in cap room.

Cut: late 3rd round comp pick in 2021, we get $19m in cap room.

You don't get comp picks for guys that you cut. The only way to get compensation for Cam is either a trade or wait until after 2020 and let him walk.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47371200/sources-rams-fire-special-teams-coordinator-chase-blackburn LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Rams have fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move marks the first in-season coaching change that Rams head coach Sean McVay has made in his nine seasons in Los Angeles. Rams assistant special teams coach Ben Kotwica will take over and become the lead special teams coach, a source told Schefter. The Rams, 11-4 and second place in the NFC West, lost to the Seahawks on Thursday night in a game that included a Seattle punt return for a touchdown and a missed 48-yard field goal by Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis. The Seahawks (12-3) overtook the Rams for first place in the division and the top overall record in the NFC thanks to the 38-37 overtime victory. Though the Rams have lost only four games this season, three have involved special teams miscues. In the Rams' first loss of the season, 33-26 to the Eagles, Los Angeles had its final two offensive possessions end with blocked kicks. In the Rams' Week 10 victory over the Saints, kicker Joshua Karty missed an extra point and a 39-yard field goal attempt. After the game, McVay said the Rams' special teams issues "can't continue like this." Los Angeles replaced long-snapper Alex Ward with Jake McQuaide and Karty with Mevis, who had not missed a kick until Thursday night in Seattle. Blackburn, 42, was in his third season as the Rams' special teams coordinator. A former linebacker for the Giants and Panthers, he also has worked as an assistant with Carolina and Tennessee.
    • It was a bad play from Icky but the OL didn't give up a sack until late in the 4th quarter and Bryce just stood there like he was canatonic. If our 3rd year number one overall pick can't overcome one single sack against a rebuilding Saints team that should only have 2 wins this season then it isn't ever going to happen   This is your quote. I mean I’ve quoted it twice. It was followed by calling people that defended him fugers and several other meltdowns I can also quote.    Shame you for working for a living??? Wow this is a whole new level to your victim mentality thing you like to do. You don’t have to watch games live. Or don’t spend an entire thread arguing about something you didn’t get the full picture of. I miss parts of games all the time. That’s just life. Not even going into the whole losing all respect thing.
    • Rams ended up firing ST coach and former Panthers coach Chase Blackburn after the loss. Sounds all too familiar.
