Scott Turner as OC

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Scott Turner is Mike Shula, but with a worse father.

You would think after having Shula as OC, Panthers fans would have learned a lesson about nepotism and competence.  But nonetheless, many still have high hopes for Scott Turner, despite the fact he only got the job because of who his dad was.

I would say it is tough to judge his play call based on our current personnel. No one would be that successful with our current Oline. I bitched about it during our preseason game against New England and nothing changed. We need new Guards and Tackles. HELP!!!

I liked some of the things he did like giving Samuel some carries.

Also, loved seeing Thomas balling out today.

Ian has questionable hands and still looks like he struggling with routes.  One time he and a WR were in the exact same area downfield, pretty sure Ian wasn't where he was supposed to be.  I like him as a #2, an Ed Dickson type of guy.  I don't see him as Greg's replacement.

As to the OPs question, I thought Scott showed some imagination.  Not too bad for his first outing.

Fans tend to focus on play calling way too much.  Our offensive line play was terrible, and we are playing with a backup qb.  What plays we call don't really matter much at this point.

Yep.  I am in no way advocating for Allen to be a starter, but it would be difficult for any young QB's confidence not to be shot by how awful the offensive line play has been.  Allen can't trust the protection at all, and it's not like it's just one position he knows to look out for.  Guys are and have been getting beat across the line all year.

We have been this bad at the tackle position when we had Byron Bell and Nate Chandler starting, but as an overall unit, this group has been as bad as unit since the John Fox days.  Which sucks considering we have actually made some significant investment there over the last few years.
