Would you have re-signed Thompson ahead of Bradberry?

Hell no. I wouldn’t have resigned Shaq at all at that number.  He should have gotten a shorter mid range deal, to give him a chance to become a good player and earn a bigger contract. If he didn’t want that, then we could find his replacement in the 3rd or 4th round and they’d play just as well probably

It matters if signing one affects your ability to sign the other.

Whether that happens in this case or not, unknown.

It's been pretty much a given that we were going to resign both, unless they wanted exorbinant contracts.  I don't think Thompson's signing has any impact on Bradberry.
What might have an impact is if we decide to cut a bunch of players at the end of the season, but we still have to pay them.  And at the same time we bring in a bunch of new players and have to pay them as well.

our off ball linebackers would be an absolute nightmare without shaq and we knew we had no leverage here. the secondary would probably live without bradberry if our pass rushing proceeds as expected. we couldn't live without shaq's speed to the outside and his ability to cover field, especially as luke approaches the end of his athletic prime. the interesting thing about shaq as well is that he still has upside, because he's gotten better every year. it's tough to remember that he isn't as instinctive at linebacker because of his positional versatility in college. we should be getting the best years of his career in this contract. with bradberry, it feels like we're probably closer to decline. we faced the same problem with josh norman after his age 28 season and didn't give him the deal. he never played another elite season, or even a pro bowl caliber season. cornerbacks are just washed so quickly now because as soon as the speed starts to go even a little bit, it's game over. it's wild but it's true. if you're off your rookie deal and an impact corner, they're already looking behind you on the depth chart trying to find the next one. this league chews up RBs and CBs quicker than any other position.

I don't know. Bradberry is important to the secondary but Shaq can have a bigger impact against the run and can affect the pass.

Personally think he's being underutilized as a pass rusher. I'd blitz him ALOT more.

I’m kinda guessing the thought process there is something along the lines of both Shaq and Eric Reid are good blitzes, but Reid can’t cover and Shaq.can, so blitz Reid and drop Shaq into coverage.

Maybe I’m dismissive but I really think you could get other linebackers that are on par with Thompson relatively easy at a lot less. Maybe I’m wrong but I just never have seen him as even “very good”

Bradberry has been a very solid but not extraordinary corner for us and even those are much harder to come by than Linebackers and their learning curve of a couple of seasons makes it even more difficult.

so no I wouldn’t have. I’m not sure how Hurney was allowed to
