With Rhule does our interest in Simmons change?

So while trying to find some info on Rhules likely DC, Phil Snow, I found this article that talked about how the Baylor team changed their defensive alignment last year.

https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2019/08/08/baylor-football-why-bears-are-experimenting-with-three-man-defensive-front?ref=article_preview_title

Seems like they ran a lot of 3-3-5, basically nickel out of a three man front.  Article talks about the third safety, which they call "Robber", being important.  Seems like a natural fit for Simmons.

I also think Brown has to be in heavy consideration also.

Baylor ran a 3-4 Base

But as you see a Lot of NFL teams do, due to the way the league is going to more passing, they played a lot of nickel packages.

95% of teams in the Big12 run 4+ WR sets.  You have to be able to scheme and match to your opponent.

We ran a 3-3-5 a lot of times this year when we went to a nickel. All that means is 3 linemen, 3 linebackers and 5 DBs/safeties. Since Irvin and Burns were linebackers, anytime they were in there along with 3 down linemen and 5 DBs/safeties we are in essence running a 3-3-5.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
