Could you go without NFL football for two years?

17 game reg season

2 bye weeks

8 playoff teams per conference.  Add another bye for everyone before the playoffs if you want.  The extra wild cards would keep more teams in the race until the end and remove some tanking and resting on top teams.

this is what I’d like as a fan.  Dump meaningless games and those injuries (see newton, cam) and add meaningful games and more byes.  

No way anyone allows 2 years of losing the billions of revenue the nfl brings in.

If the NFL was lost for a year much less 2 it would be in big trouble. People would realize how much a waste of time and money it is.

Tepper could use some of the idled Panthers players to fill out his new MLS roster.  For instance:  Cam would make a great Goal Keeper and CMC could play Midfielder or Striker.

I could see the 17 game schedule easily leading to “load mgmt” where a player will just sit out for rest

Emmanuel Sanders actually ended up playing 17 games this year due to his midseason trade. He's speaking out pretty strongly against the idea, saying no way in hell he'd be willing to do that again.

Snacks Harrison had to do the same thing last year.  I am definitely against a 17 game season, but I think its just a talking point the owners use to gain some leverage in other matters.  The math really doesn't make a ton of sense to do.  What I DO support is only 1 team getting a BYE in the playoffs.  If you are the #1 seed, you get a BYE.  If you are the #2 seed, you play the 7th seed. 

As far as holding out for 2 years, I think that would be a huge mistake by the NFLPA and I am going to assume its just a talking point.  First, you don't want to give people 2 years of conditioning themselves without NFL football on Sunday's.  Many people will find more productive things to do, and won't be back.  On top of that, the longer the holdout, the more of a chance of a replacement stepping in and getting a foothold.  The replacement could be new players, or it could be a new league.  Either way, if the current players stay out long enough, they will be forgotten and the new players will be what many of us will watch on Sunday's.

This last season has shown me how well I can go without football, despite me never considering  it in the past. 

If they strike, I may become a permanent,  casual fan.
