Or, we move Cam, draft an OT at 7, IOL in the 2nd or a WR, start Grier, and go get our QB next year?

Maybe trade back a bit in the 1st to pick up an extra 2nd next season to use to move up if we happen to win more than 3 games?

We really have no idea what this coaching staff/front office will do...uncharted waters.

Fuzz, I got off the OT train at the last stop.  I want one, but I do not see them doing it.  Too many other needs.  Some "experts" are saying that LT and C will improve when you get a good LG.  I dunno

I am all for trading for 2021 picks.  That is smart.

Ruhle’s people skills have always been one of his biggest strengths. I don’t know him but everything I read about him or hear about him really indicates he is a very good leader with strong communication skills and a great motivator. Important stuff.

My issue with the DT....Marty has never drafted a good defensive tackle that I can recall....not a single one.  Now that doesn't matter all that much, but it is enough to give me some pause.

On top of that, what position does he play?  DT's are not all the same....and they can be scheme dependent, whereas for the most part OT's are not.

Are we going to a 3/4 or a 4/3, a mix, a hybrid?  How many snaps is that 1st round DT gonna be on the field for vs. a tackle?

I'm just trying to get the most bang for the buck with a top 10 selection in a very good draft....and IMO, that would be a T...unless there isn't one there that grades out as a true plug and play LT.

An OT then, plays about 55-65 snaps a game.

I have said the same thing (bold).  I think this is a good draft for OT, and there are some solid DTs later.  I am with you.  What I would do and what I think marty will do are different.

Agreed, I just think Tackle has the ability to have a much stronger impact immediately...and when I say OT, I mean the overall offensive line, which a top flight tackle would certainly help.

Also, just to keep it in perspective, we are talking about a top 7 draft pick, and while the NFL doesn't operate in 10 year cycles, it would be nice to get a player there that can give us 8+ years of steady production.

Our best DT's drafted in the past 15 years have given us 5 years, and 4 years of good production, before either leaving, or getting paid and getting lazy.

I have the same belief about the MLB position, we have had some great ones, but only Luke has given us more than 5 years of great production, without major injuries, or missing tons of games, we hear that a lot about the RB's, but our "great" MLB 1st rounders have usually given us about 4 or 5 total good years here.

Brown/Kinlaw/Simmons all good with me

SImmons and Shaq would be interesting for sure. A real shame we couldn't bear witness to what Rivera could've done with Simmons, Kuechly, and Shaq on the same field. Could've been the latest iteration of that Seahawks defense with Thomas, Sherman, Wagner, and Chancellor.

The “negatives” about Herbert though wouldnt necessarily be our to bed at the combine.

His struggles came with decision making and footwork when in the pocket in regards to pressure and multiple looks from defenses.

Thats going to be the leap of faith that you take with Herbert at the next level....can he fix those mental and mechanical mistakes. Playing against lesser talent at the Sr Bowl and running through drills at the underwear olympics doesn’t necessarily clear that up.
