Cam forced into a trade

It's going to take a lot more than just Lawrence, even if he's an absolute stud.

I’m confident in Rhule being in charge of the rebuild. First year or two will be rough as hell, but he’ll get us to consistent success, hopefully including back to back winning seasons/playoffs and SB win(s).

Time for someone to say this......fug this team and this organization. Won't be anybody in the stadium and they don't deserve to have anyone spend a dime.

Lost all fuggin interest in them and they can move to Mexico for all I care.

I’d take a couple of high draft picks for Cam and sign bridgewater in a heartbeat

With Hurney as GM we’ll be lucky to get a 5th rounder and I assume we might end up just releasing him which should get every person on this staff fired immediately

The team deserves whatever blowback they get from this. It won't be pretty for Tepper, Rhule, and Hurney (while he's here).

It also just goes to show the politicking of our new owner and coach. These guys will work their words and the team's words to suit them however they want. It's going to be hard to trust them going forward. The "inside the Panthers" stuff is going to age poorly. I want to love everything about this team, but not sure how to feel about anyone who isn't just a player for the franchise at this point.

Agreed on this. I’m in the reboot boat, but I thought Cam was staying based on all the comments. I still had a doubt that Cam would be willing to play out his deal on a rebuilding team but that was my opinion. There’s no need to fug around with him. If you don’t want him either trade or release him. This is a really bad look.

Let’s cool off a bit. This is either

A) The team not wanting Cam anymore.

B) Cam not willing to play without a contract and the team not willing to extend a hurt QB.

They don't want him and they signed the backup last week knowing this. He too will be cut next off season. This is a financial move and a dumb one. They should have let Tre walk too

Something tells me that there may be some medical information that came to light recently that made some minds change about keeping Cam. The news isn't out because, well, you never point out the problems with your car when you take it for a trade in.

Hate to see the Cam Newton era end here, it had some of the most thrilling football moments I've ever seen, but the injuries were piling up and at some point there had to be a light that came through the fog and smoke of hype and marketing.

Good luck to him, I'll always cheer for him if he can play again, but I was a day one Panther fan and I'll be a Panther fan until my last day on earth. The cast always changes, but the show goes on.

This is very, very simple.

The Panthers "forced" Cam into this by not "committing" to Cam by way of extending him. They didn't extend him because it's terrible business to pay him top-tier QB money (which he would obviously want and most would agree from his perspective, it is deserved) after two seasons where he got injured. He hasn't played a full season in 3 years and wants to get paid, which simply won't work. The Panthers likely said "either play out your year and then we talk about extension, or we can trade you" OR Cam said "give me an extension now, or I'll request to be traded". Either way, there's an ultimatum and it is to the benefit of both parties that it goes this way it would seem. Cam gets what he feels he's worth elsewhere, Panthers get to explore more affordable options.

Of course Cam doesn't want to leave. He wants to build a legacy and wants to do it here. That makes sense. He would rather be extended and stay. The team doesn't want to do that.

This scenario is heck of a lot more likely than yours...

Panthers have tried to trade him, which has been rumored for months, but couldn't find a trade partner.
Next step is to see if Cam and his agent can get a trade done.
Most likely they will not. And then Cam will be cut.

Which will anger people and that's why Panthers try do some damage control by "blaming" Cam for this situation. We all have seen the writing on the wall. To me, whats been telling is whenever been asked about Cam, Rhule for example, always reacts like he is being cornered. Not a great sign for a "leader".

If this was about a contract situation, does anyone really thing that Panthers wouldn't announce that to the whole freaking world... Because then no one would blame them if Cam was let go because we all would understand that they dont want to give him a new contract with all the health concerns.

Maybe, but you don’t know that. It’s just your guess based on how you feel. Im sure the truth will come out one day.
