Lack of quality DE play was a big part of our problem against the run last year. If those guys can't set the edge your outside backers are getting swallowed up too.

I think the scheme change was more the problem then the players..  They seem to be out of their gaps and over running plays more then getting push around.. He should be fine as a OLB in a 4-3..

There is now way in hades this kid is sitting there at 7.    Okudah maybe but no way Simmons is.

I have my doubts also.  Its not always about who the better player is, its about fit and what those drafting value the most.

Who is DG more likely to draft? A LB or CB?

Who is RR more likely to draft? A LB or CB?

and before someone says Simmons is more of a safety, it doesn't matter what we think.  They might convince themselves he can be the most athletic and impactful LB in the league.

If Tua is there at #7, honestly it's a big red flag. He shouldn't be and you have to ask yourself why if it happens.

You can ask that question but everyone already knows it’s because injury. It would be a great fit for us if he’s at 7 (no chance that happens). He has a full year to learn the playbook, get 100% healthy, and transition to the NFL. Tua in Brady’s offense.... fire

Thing is, Simmons can do a lot of things but he needs a defensive mind to utilize him to his fullest. If we draft him do you see a guy like Snow doing more than line Simmons up at WLB with occasional Saftey rotation?

Somewhat agree. But having watched him for a couple of years I think if he was tasked with concentrating on what position he would be great at that as well. I think he is THE can't miss in the draft.

Our DL was absolutely awful last year and we’ve downgraded big time from that unit.  Games are won at the line of scrimmage, so let’s use our high draft pick on an undersized LB.  Also, LOL at whoever said there are DTs just as good as brown later in the draft.  Brown may be the best player in the entire draft regardless of position and many Auburn and Alabama fans who have watched him the last couple of years would agree.

Okudah will be there.

I agree that Simmons won’t. Everyone just assumes Detroit replaces Slay with Okudah but Simmons would make a lot more of a difference for them.

I still think Gettleman goes OL/DL due to his love for hog mollies but he did also draft Shaq.

San Diego could pair Simmons with James and that would be one hell of a playmaking combo on D with Bosa and Ingram up front.

I just don’t see him being there at 7 either.

If this was true the 49ers would be SB champs. Times have changed.

The trenches are important but having playmakers on the backend of your defense is just as/if not more important.

If Simmons can be Derwin James, and we have a creative enough DC to get him to that type level, I would be good with this pick, as long as the T's had already been picked through.

My wishes are as such.

Best LT in the draft.

Okuda.

Best OT in the draft.

Simmons.
