I was leaning more to AJ Epenesa or Denzel Mims but I love this pick. We stuck to our guns and got yet another player that excels at both traits needed for the position and doesn’t have weaknesses that can’t be course corrected. Also a theme I’m noticing from this draft is that we are going high character guys and I can really dig that!

From what he has said, seems to be something that is important to Rhule. Love it.

New coach Matt Rhule is serious about building his defense from the inside out. After taking DT Derrick Brown at No. 7, he got one of the more athletic defensive ends in Penn State's Yetur Gross-Matos. This kid lacks all the physical attributes to develop into a great pass rusher, and with Brown and Kawann Short inside teams won't be able to double team him. He's a true DE in a 4-3 scheme, so he fill a big

I swear this guy is an idiot.  He “lacks” all the physical attributes to turn into a great pass rusher?  Can they fire him please???!

A couple of years ago I watched an episode of A Football Life on the “Fearsome Foursome”. Lamar Lundy, Rosie Greer, Merlin Olsen, and Deacon Jones were all 6’5. They formed one of the most famous D-Lines in history. Man,  wouldn’t it be great if Carolina could recreate that scenario? If we could find a 6’5 guy to back up Short at DT we could be well on our way.
