Sean Payton says NFL "wasn't ready" for pass interference rule.

As much as I don’t like saying this, the NFL most definitely cuddles to their darling teams.
ie: saints, Green Bay, Patriots, Cowboys etc..etc

Of course the NFL will give special treatment to these teams just because they don't like a rule when it effects them and it is no problem when other teams get the penalties.

That is what the NHL does for some penalties. Those calls from league HQ. It works pretty well.

However, do you really trust the NFL like that? I certainly don't.

The NHL also limits replay to specific calls and circumstances.  That is very important to making it work efficiently, and keeping it from becoming a whining festival.  In some cases, it may be too narrow, but it is what it is and everybody pretty much accepts that.  In general, if it is not related to a goal or somebody getting hurt (penalty), they don't bother with it.

I also think there is a mentality of "play on" in the NHL that has long since died in the NFL.  People have a delusion that NFL officials should be perfect while the players eff things up on a regular basis.  And, as we have seen, so do the coaches.

I'm with you, I trust the on-field (or on-ice) officials to make the calls more than I trust somebody looking at it on replay remotely.  I think part of the NHL system is the off-ice replay official getting a full understanding of if the official saw the play and if so, their rationale for the call they made.  If they saw it and opted to not call it because it was incidental or it was a continuation of something that had been going on for a while, the off-ice official leaves it alone. The exceptions to the deference to the on-ice officials being calls that are definitive, like whether the puck crossed the goal line or a play was offsides.

I thought it was a good rule. NFL referees are incompetent, biased, and think people are tuning in to watch them. I hate officials. They need to make everything reviewable and their needs to be more accountability from bad calls.

I thought it was too. Payton threw a hissy fit to get it, the refs threw a hissy fit and decided not to overturn anything. This BS drama is killing the league. There is no accountability for the refs because they are unionized. I say bring back the replacement refs, since there hasn't been any difference between the two, and lets get all this under control. It's the reason why I've stopped watching football all together except for Panther games. I'm tired of refs deciding the outcome of games and hiding behind gray area rules. Bring back replacement refs and adjust what needs to be so that blatant non-calls or obviously terrible calls stop deciding the outcome.

I wouldn't mind if the refs just had trouble enforcing it correctly, with mixed results.  I wouldn't mind if they just decided to stay with all of the calls on the field and never change anything.  But they decided to stay with most calls, but somehow managed to let the new rule benefit some privileged franchises...like the Packers.

I'm glad its gone, but the league proved once again its more entertainment with coerced outcomes than a real sports league that's decided completely on the field between the players and coaches.

No, it shows what everyone said beforehand. The calls are subjective. To add it to the review process is fuging retarded.

Every snap has someone on the line holding and holding, pushing off or PI in the secondary. Refs can't call everything, it'll always be subjective.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
