Prediction: Panthers Super Bowl in 3 Years?

the fact that only one other team was willing to pay him the vet minimum for his experience means they were not alone in deciding he wasn't worth paying starting qb money to. Also Cam did have a contract for this coming year, he could have chosen to play. I think cutting him was more about the situation and being unwilling to pay a player franchise qb money when that player hasn't proven he can stay healthy and said player being unwilling to play out a final year with no guarantees beyond that. There is no stupidity on either side, just both sides making decisions in their best interests that result in Cam leaving, which frankly sucks if you're fan, but it's a business and that's the way it goes.

Well we are paying Ted as much as Cam was to make and he isn't a franchise QB, who also hasn't played a 16 game season in years. Also, if Cam fails this year they will be picking in the top of the draft. Win win, no guarantees but they have a shot at a top QB over thr next 12 months one way or the other. I don't know how to inbed a tweet but Gantt said as much. We also released Cam when the other teams filled their rosters so no surprise most teams didn't have space for Cam. Hard sell to other players with that kind of Madden behavior would be.

I get it, it went bad here. I also firmly belive that however this ends up will be reflected back on to our decision makers. We handled it poorly but that isn't shocking given how we have handled Cam for so long. It may be business but it has yet to be seen if it was good business for thr Panthers.

If we hit on a QB in next year's draft, we "should" be able to control the division for the immediate future from 2022 on.  TB has a 2 year max window.  NO might just be this year.  ATL has 2-3 max, but cap issues could derail them.

IF Covid messes with the cap for next year, a lot of teams are screwed, and we could be poised to be helped out more than anyone while teams like NO and ATL will have to make tough cuts.  Draft one of the big 3 QBs in 2021, and we could be playoff bound in their 2nd year I would think.  SB, 3-5 years before we can actually be a contender.

Only if either thing happens...

1.  We suck this upcoming year and find the next great QB in the NFL with our top 3 pick, Trevor/Fields/Lance.  Thus, being able to get rid of Bridgewater's contract early and being able to use that money in other positions while our next QB remains in his rookie contract.

2.  Bridgewater proves he can be more than just a game manager in Brady's system, and our defense shows potential to be great with all that young talent, making us win 5 to 7 games this upcoming year, and deciding to draft a defensive player to keep building on the defense, or offensive line help with a top 8 to 16 pick.

I have to see Brady sans Belicheat before I believe he can have any impact in Tampa.

Everyone is already putting Brady and the Bucs in the SB. Brady didn’t have a great season last year, only threw 24 td’s. Arians will have to alter his “air raid” approach for sure.

Exactly, everyone talking about how Cam doesn't fit NE offense forgot that Brady doesnt fit into a downfield passing scheme.

Brady to Tampa really takes the wind out of our win now initiative. Bridgewater's a great fit here and I believe there's a high chance that both wildcards come out of our division, but now dude's gotta really ball out of control just get us to the playoffs against Brees and Brady and that's asking a lot in 3 years. It would have been a lot to ask of Cam and at least we've seen that his ceiling is even capable of going that high. I have high expectations of Teddy but not that high

Yeah, the next 2 or 3 years in this division are going to be Hell, but after that things should be wide open.  Once Brady and Brees finally hang it up we should be in a very good spot.  We will have had time to build the team in Rhules image.  If Teddy doesnt work out, we will have probably sucked back enough to land a top flight QB in the draft.

Only if Matt Rhule is indeed the chosen one, he has the toughest coaching job in NFL history. It maybe easier to land a human on Mars than Panthers superbowl within three years.

He chose his bed, let him lie in it. We have a ton of cap space coming up.

Coaches have walked into a LOT worse situations than this one. Ron Rivera walked into a worse one.

things I see happening in 3 years:

1. We win the NFCS. Brady and Brees will be out of the game, Ryan is better than average, but not in the same neighborhood as those 2. We are young and fast and will continue that trend.

2. Brady will be a HC elsewhere. I am very excited about our offense. I think we'll finish top 10 the next couple of years, and Brady will get most of the credit and be snatched up.

3. Hurney will be sipping a mai tai in Boca Raton regaling all the other old farts with war stories from his days as a GM.

In my opinion for a team to win the super bowl they almost need to have a dominate defense, a dominate offense, or pretty good at both. In our case we are definitely closer to pretty good at both compared to the other two options. However we are in need of a lot of help.

Rhule quite literally has everything working against him as a first time NFL coach. Finishing above 8-8 in the next 2-3 years should heralded as a success for him and the franchise. If Brees and Brady retire by then that’s the only way this team even sniffs a playoff berth.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
