"The more you can do, the more you can do."

Rule said in some ways Covid is making them treat the team like a highschool or college team where guys may end up playing both offense and defense if needed.

Hey, have you played offense before? Well here is a playbook and study it in your free time.

Personally, I would not mind one bit seeing Derrick Brown block for CMC on the goal line

I guess but any DT who's not a significant investment of ours seems to make more sense.

I'd make an 'it is what it is' joke here but that phrase may carry a slightly different connotation these days than it used to.

As such, I'll just lament that Peppers was never able to come down with any of those fade routes that Fox called for him. Wouldv'e been sweet.

Could be a nice way for some bubble guys to make the roster if they have position flexibility.  But the idea of any starting level player playing both sides?  Won't be happening.  If it's even an option, shut the season down.  Extreme example, but would be pretty ridiculous for CMC to get injured because he's been asked to play FS for the day.   3rd string LT's, sure.  Anyone else, GTFO

It's encouraging to see a coach not completely set in his ways come hell or highwater.

But, it very well could also be an ominous sign about the nearly devoid level of NFL experience on this coaching staff. There's a reason why there are very few two way players in the NFL and those few are all just gadget players, kinda like when we used to trot Peppers out on offense in goalline situations.

yeah this can't be that great of an idea. Please, coaches, don't make me watch a 1-15 team again.

It was always fun to see Peppers go out on offense.

I still say one of the greatest, funniest, most memorable moments I’ve witnessed in a Panthers regular season game is us sending Peppers out as a goal line WR and the Falcons coaching staff saying

“ We see your athletically freakish DE lining up as a WR and raise you our athletic TE from the same college program lining up as CB to cover him.”

What I wouldn’t give to have been a fly listening in to the pre snap conversation between Peppers and Alge Crumpler.

”Hey man, you got any idea what you’re doing out here?”

”No. You?”

”That’s funny. I barely know what a route tree looks like.”

”At least you ain’t gotta worry about getting scored on. I’m supposed to be a tight end!!”.

Without a doubt one of the most hilariously brilliant and absurd things I’ve ever seen in the NFL.

Most players have some kind of experience at multiple positions and can operate in short term in game situations.  The bigger problem comes in the specialty positions like FGs, punters, holders and long snappers.  They may be forced to carry extras on the 53 or PS.

    • I'm probably one of those posters, but I make those posts because there are too many things going on that don't make sense. For instance, how does a RB that does something that hasn't been done in 14 years immediately get reverted back to 2nd string, and it takes a leadership council to make him the starter when he's averaging 3x the YPC? Your average fan shouldn't be screaming that for 2 weeks before the coach sees it. And that's one of many.  What you're seeing is frustration that we could be better, that we should be better, if our owner, FO, and coaches could do things that are so painfully obvious to even the most basic fan
    • Cowboys. Patriots. Couldn't ask for two bigger villains.
    • I think we're all struggling with what things are right now and what they have been. It's like getting ready to have bandages removed after a long period of injury. The healing, the new growth, they aren't going to be pretty, there's going to be some ongoing issues for a while at best and there's every chance that we're going to have to go back into the bandage situation all over again. And that sucks. But it's also a place where maybe, just maybe, the recovery is going to finally start happening. The bad days will be getting behind us.  It's not going to happen this year, but I believe from what I see that this year is showing that improvement. We focus on the QB because that's what all the pundits focus on, because it's the flashiest and most heralded position on the field. No one wants to put out a tweet about how a center is holding down their job and anchoring a line. They rarely celebrate that blocking tight end or special teams gunner. That fourth CB on the depth chart? Not a mention. And yet, those guys are the kind that we've been building here, we're building the lunch pail guys AND finding some future stars.  Is Bryce one of them? Might be a cornerstone of the team in the future as the second QB, might somehow just show out to end the season. Might flame out like many expect. But if that uncertainty is all we concentrate on, we're just going to miserably look at this team and maybe miss out on some solid green shoots that are finally beginning to poke through into the sunlight.
