Week 1 News: Raiders release Prince Amukamara

NFL Media reports that the Raiders released Amukamara on Monday. Amukamara was released by the Bears in February and signed with the Raiders in May.

Amukamara said a short time after signing that he thought he’d be a perfect fit in Paul Guenther’s defensive scheme, but it seems that was not the case once the team got on the field this summer. Amukamara spent the last three years with the Bears after opening his career with the Giants and spending one year with the Jaguars. He was a starter in each of those stops and will now try to find somewhere else to keep that streak alive.

The Raiders have second-year corners Trayvon Mullen and Isaiah Johnson to go with first-round pick Damon Arnette, nickel back Lamarcus Joyner, fourth-rounder Amik Robertson and Nevin Lawson.

For the right price he might be worth a shot. We need the help, especially with the receivers in this division.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Pretty common for teams to claim off waivers players from their next opponent.

If we are building Id rather get our young corners more time.

I agree.  Prince probably wouldn’t be a big upgrade over who we have, so may as way see what we have in the youngsters.  If we are going to make a move at CB, it should be someone who is a massive upgrade over every other CB on the roster IMO.

Not a big fan.

At this point, I think he's one of those guys that teams look at and go "well, he was good once so maybe we can get something out of him" when they sign him, and then later say "well, guess not" when they let him go.

He hasn't lasted long anywhere since leaving New York.

    • He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.
    • Not only for Andersen but the whole team, having not beat the Habs this season before tonite.  Shows them that they aren't jinxed.
    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
