Derrick Brown, massive top-10 bust

Re-watching the Raiders game this morning. Brown was super solid. He was often doubled, but won his 1v1 match-ups a majority of the time. Hudson was getting away with a crazy amount of holding when Brown would break through and he had to pivot to help. Especially liked seeing him stack Kolton Miller up into the backfield before stoning Jacobs before he could get to the line.

A more appropriate comparison to Brown would be Javon Kinlaw, not Kawann Short. Both were drafted in the first (Brown @ #7, Kinlaw @ #14). Both have 3 combined tackles (2 solo/1 asst for Brown, 1 solo/2 asst for Kinlaw) after similar snap counts (Brown has less than 10 more). Brown has 2 pass deflections to Kinlaw's 0 and one of those tackles for Brown was the aforementioned TFL which Kinlaw has none of.

The only rookie DT to have outperformed Brown on the stats sheet is Raekwon Davis who had 3 combined tackles in half of the snaps but also had no pressures/hurries/qb hits/pass deflections/TFLs/etc.

Kinlaw looked like a future star today

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned already but didn’t Kuechly grade out bad also on his first few games during his rookie year?

That was with a preseason and normal offseason...not saying Brown will be star level like Kuechly, but cmon...give the dude some time, especially this year with the lack of preseason.

So um yeah.... Isaiah simmons isnt even getting playing time in AZ and word is when he is on the field he looks completely lost. People were calling brown bust all because he didn't dominate the first 2 games of the season ....are people gonna give Hurney his credit for making a smart decision or no?
