Is it time to start thinking trade?

I don't want to trade away future picks for current bandaids. I'm still not convinced we're going to challenge for a playoff berth or that this season will be played to fruition. Gotta remember, we were 4-2 through six games last year too. We're playing much better than I expected but we're also benefitting from facing teams that are suffering one helluva rash of injuries at the time. Time will tell if we're legit or if it's a fluke. Just being honest, if I had to bet money it'd be on the latter.

I'd trade CMC for a haul.

That's about all we've got to trade right now. Teams aren't going to be beating down our door for anyone else with the season being so uncertain.

If we want to trade some mid to late round future picks for good young guys fighting for PT on teams with a star in front of them, that'd be okay too. But lets not get too carried away.

We're trending up without needing to make any moves, and with our best player on IR.

I doubt you would get much with that contract

DT depth is the biggest issue to me. Run defense is still pretty bad. Short is more of an injury prone veteran mentor to Brown than a full time starter at this point. Bravvion Roy was getting pushed off the ball almost every play last game. Woodrow Hamilton might need to get some more opportunities. If we were to make a trade and there’s a solid DT available, I think that’s a big spot for improvement.

I'd agree, especially with the first sentence.

As fun as this season has been to date, I still think this is not "our year". I'd much rather focus on building the future. Trading away picks doesn't lend to that.

There's been word that Brady isn't that big on using tight ends, so pursuing a tight end might not be that beneficial.

College TEs tend to not put up monster stats but Moss had 47 catches last season. He was clearly behind Chase, Marshall, Jefferson and CEH but I think that is simply a product of the environment. If he felt like he could scheme him open better than the others, he would. Moss went undrafted and has since been cut. Chase is the top WR in last years or this years class, Jefferson looks great and Marshall is one of the bright dominant spots left at LSU.

Brady would use the TE to catch more if there was less talent at WR. But he didn’t have a great one at LSU or now in Carolina.

Stop it.

This is the kind of thinking that gets teams in trouble.  It certainly sank our 2019.

You are NEVER a couple players away.  Building your team for sustained success means you don't do things like trading for players.  You never get the overall value out of a trade that you do from successfully drafting good young players.

It also could help a team go over the top. In 2015 there was a rumor that the Browns were willing to give up Joe Thomas for a first rounder from us. So, imagine having Joe Thomas vs that Broncos team. Think that would've helped a tad?

He’s not. People mentioned Moss at LSU last year but forgot to look at the ratios and how little of Burrow’s total he was and how much of that came in CFPs. If you only watched the CFPs, which is most NFL fans, then you might think Brady loves TEs but it’s not the case. With Moore, Anderson and Samuel along with RBs, TE is not a need.

That ian thomas drop yesterday tho.....

I seriously think they need to get a safety. Here's the list. You can find RFA and UFA for 2021. Pick one on a bad team and maybe the PAnthers can poach.

Zack Ertz would probably be available at TE. He wants a new contract and the Eagles need to cut cap next year. He could be likely had for 3rd-5th range but we would have to commit to a top of the market TE contract which run around $15M/year right now. Has one more year on his deal but nearly held out this year so expecting him to play on his deal next year would be a bad idea. TE usage in Brady’s offense is something else to consider.

Desmond King of the Chargers is an option at CB. Was a top CB a couple years ago before an injury and is unsettled with his playing time. Contract expires after the year and will want big money($10M+j to keep. Likely wouldn’t cost much in terms of a pick to get him though. Pick could be recovered as a compensatory in 2022 if he does leave.

I think if we had a TE worth being thrown to, we would. Brady didn’t seem to mind using Moss at LSU last season.
