Panther defense most conservative in the league.

I would rather apply pressure and get hits on the QB than contain the receivers in a loose zone.  If I were DC we would blitz as much as we did under Steve Wilks, but I wouldn't be sending small guys after the QB like Captain, oh no, I'd be sending LBs.

Sure but what we are doing has been proven not to work. Why not try something different? Otherwise....why did we fire Ron?

It's worked pretty damn well this year actually considering the talent we have on D (lackthereof)... Once we get some more talent in the secondary, we'll see how Snow can adjust his scheme to more man to man and more blitzes. If he doesn't then it'll become an issue but right now our corners can't cover even scrub receivers 1 on 1 and even when we blitz we don't get there and someone would be open anyways. Our scheme has been completely fine this year when taking into account the personnel. If we still do this zone D and lack of blitzing crap with talent back there, I'll be concerned, but let's take a wait and see approach.

There is some conversation that it is personnel but how can we can blitz a lot against detroit and shut them out but with essentially the same guys give up tons of yards and points to the Vikings.  Plus I heard Rhule say if Snow had to replay the game against the Vikings again he would have blitzed more.

If it was all personnel than when you blitzed you would get poorer results not better ones and you wouldn't change your scheme if you didn't have the personnel to do both.

No this just convinces me even more that Snow's preferred scheme doesn't work in the pros and he will need to bring more pressure and put more guys on the line of scrimmage to confuse the blocking protections like we did against Detroit. The 3-3-5 is the old prevent defense which prevents you from winning.

It is personnel. The players the other team is trotting out matter too.

I think Snow has done a decent job of working with what he has. We're far from the worst D in the NFL and honestly that was what I expected to be.

This. The unit is already overperforming considering the players we have. No idea where this is going but Snow did way more with what he had then I thought he possibly could.

I wonder how much of the prevent D is by choice vs trying to cover player deficiencies.  We had the lead vs the Vikings and we knew they had to get it down the field because of the score but against Detroit it wasn't close enough to stop blitzing, we could afford the TD if we blew coverage. I completely understand the logic of don't stop pressuring the QB if our prevent D is going to be that bad but I wonder if as fans we are missing an angle.

Snow is not an NFL DC. Period. Anyone who says who doing better than expected with less. In reality, He isn't.

He is an NFL DC. He has the youngest defense in a decade, highest paid defender on IR (KK), lost Bradberry, Luke, Mario, and many more to have the highest turnover of any team in the league, has to start 4 rookies most of the year, lost Jackson for most of the year, and still has a middle ranked defense. We had a historically bad run defense last season and we are making huge strides when we didn’t even have an offseason.

If our corners are the problem, wouldn't that immediately make that position our highest priority need behind QB and LT?

Our DBs are sus at best. Best one is form a team that needs CBs and released him, thats the deal. Pride is trying hard for a 4th round rookie, same for STO. Djack has a toe and other issues. If burns doesnt get to QB, our DB are burned most times.

Snow shouldnt trust the DBs and hes still doing a great job.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
