So what exactly does Marty Hurney do?

Here is a look at the front office of the Carolina Panthers (not including scouting).

2017 (Jerry Richardson)

General Manager – Marty Hurney

Director of Player Personnel – Mark Koncz

Director of Team Administration – Rob Rogers

2020 (David Tepper)

Marty Hurney General Manager

Mark Carrier Executive Director of Football Staff

Jeff Morrow Executive Director of Player Personnel

Sean Padden Vice President - Football Operations

Bryan Porter Director of Football Operations

Taylor Rajack Director of Football Analytics

Pat Stewart Director of Player Personnel

Samir Suleiman Director of Player Negotiations & Salary Cap Manager

I would be interested in hearing what Hurney's day to day is. It looks to me that a whole lot of people are doing the things he used to do.

Great fuging question. If the Panthers used a huddle poll for draft picks and free agent signings,  It would be about 10x better than Marty Hurney.

We’d draft Isaiah Simmons and John Ross in the first. Few huddlers knew who Jeremy Chinn was prior to the draft.

He is a professional sucker.  A fraud who has been able to weasel his way into a high-paying NFL gig and he sucks at it.  There is much suction surrounding the Panther GM position.  He is the Hoover vacuum of home appliances.  If he were candy, he would be on a stick and shaped like a toilet seat. He is creates hickies on the ass of the owner.

I hope my point was clear.  He sucks.

I think Hurney is the perfect guy for GM from Rhule's perspective.  Rhule didn't get that contract without having most of the power.  Hurney is the nominal GM, but I feel more than confident his relationship to Rhule is not the same as it was to Fox or Rivera.

And for Rhule, Hurney isn't going to attempt some power play that happens between some GM's and coaches (i.e. Hurney "knows his role"), and if the "plan" goes off-course in these first few years of the Rhule tenure, Hurney is the perfect scapegoat to shield Rhule.

And I think Hurney knows the deal and is ok with it too.

If things go great, the credit mostly goes to Rhule.  If things go poorly, it's on Hurney.

And I don't feel for Hurney as he's collecting these fat checks.

But at the end of the day, as fans we have to realize if not accept that Tepper could have canned Hurney and choose not to, and Rhule certainly could have gotten rid of Hurney IMO if he didn't want to join the Panthers with Hurney still being around.

Both these men see value in having Hurney around, even if it has become a more of a job in title only.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
