Cam Newton/Tepper/Watson

admittedly I haven't really been on twitter for like a day (which is like missing an entire decade of news cycle apparently) but a quick glance shows like there is some drama between Sheena and John Ellis. Wtf is going on lol

Also this is 100% not fuging suprising. Many of us last year blasted the franchise for how they handled Cam's release. The Panthers handled firing Rivera with class and respect. Cam got lied to, cut and released with a picture. That isn't how you release your franchise.

I'm going to be so fuging mad all over again if that prevents us from getting Watson

I dont really know what Cam could tell him other than he loved it here and wanted to stay. Unfortunately the team gave up on him being able to stay healthy and he was forced to find a new team.

Personally I would have rather seen if he could of been healthy on the last year of his deal or put our backup in if he got injured, but that did not happen.

Yeah I don’t think he’s coming here, i hope I’m wrong bc there is a lot that can happen between now and March.

Yeah, I think unless that price comes down to something more reasonable or Watson really, really, really wants to be here for some reason, I can't see it.

We actually make a lot less sense than a lot of the locations that have been speculated.

To be fair....

The way Cam was treated prior to his release isn't that far off from Houston. It's not apples to apples, but it's the same fruit basket, for sure.

Depends on whether it was more Hurney pushing the narrative or if Rhule/Tepper were full of isht in their transparency to Cam on a personal level. If it's the latter, than Carolina might not be a landing spot for DW.

It's not the only factor, but the respect DW has for Cam is looming large.

There is no drama between me and Sheena. Some in her replies seem to believe otherwise.

We don't know what went down behind closed doors and never will but it strikes me that the signs were pointing to likely moving on from Cam before Rhule was even hired.  I don't know why Cam would harbor ill will towards him from public comments, which were as classically coach speak as is possible.  Cam knows this is a business and is an adult...

As to Tepper... No idea.  But unfortunately the Panthers feelings on Cam seemed to he held by the league as a whole.  It isn't surprising we moved on from Cam when moving on from Rivera too all things considered.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
