Another season of T.B becoming reality

Unless something drastic happens, you’re right. Bridgewater is going to be the starter next season. Will there be a rookie as his backup? Maybe, but I’m guessing there won’t be. Panthers really screwed themselves beating Washington as we all know.

If all the top QBs are gone at 8, Panthers should trade back and accumulate picks. Stack the roster with talent and find a QB next year. With a better team and a healthy CMC, Bridgewater might be just enough to get the team to the playoffs.

Pretty much.  It will be interesting to see how the manage this awkward situation going forward.

Teddy knows it’s a business. My best bet is that we draft a QB and let them compete in the offseason. Teddy will likely win, and give the rookie time to develop. That may be for a few games or the season, but he will play nice and put forth his best effort so that he can try to get a starting position on another team. Last offseason we were one of the only teams where could walk into a starting role, so he knows about competition and I don’t see him being a locker room distraction or trying to force a trade/release. at the end of the day he will still be getting paid starter money which goes a Long way to his happiness when he’s not every guaranteed to start again on another team.

This approach has been a head-scratcher for me. My views on Teddy the player are quite clear but still wonder what they've tried to accomplish with so much negative public signalling. Like, why make it completely clear we're looking QB at 8 or in some other fashion while also eviscerating any hint of value he may have had on the market with that contract.

Maybe they think this will motivate him in the scenario they can't get another QB. Still seems weird though.

Lol if you think Teddy is in the teams short term/long term plans...you are not paying attention. Missing out on paying a huge ransom for Stafford does not change that.

Watson might not leave it could very well go into the season and we won’t wait to see. Plus even if he becomes available there is no way we can afford him. So yes Teddy will be starting the season even if we get a rookie might as well face it.

I guess OP doesn’t realize that free agency and the draft have yet to happen. Who wants to tell them?

Who else is left at qb in FA that is long term, that’s what we are looking for? So we will be drafting someone and probably none of the top 4 so yay we get to root for 2 yd Teddy.

Yay let’s when 9 or 10 games to lose in first rd and pick around 20th sounds great. Panthers will still be called mediocre.

Exactly what I was going to say.

We’ve now publicly communicated that TB is out. Sure would be awkward to have to bring him back.

    • It's honestly pretty interesting just seeing this pairing play out. Canales’ offenses (Seattle, Tampa) are run-first, under-center, play-action systems built around defined reads and intermediate/deep timing throws. That structure worked when he had QBs like Baker Mayfield or Russell Wilson in a system that created clear launch points and sightlines. His success has always been tied to a credible run game + play-action gravity. You can see that with the Panthers team building philosophy as well. Coker and TMac both are bigger receivers that won't get the best YAC production but thrive as possession receivers in contested scenarios. They're not the best in space and creating additional yardage in such, and would likely fair better systematically with a stronger armed QB who can create better opportunities on those boundary 1v1 matchups with stronger throws. Bryce, on the other hand, is a spread-native QB. His strengths are rhythm, spacing, quick processing, and off-script creation. Asking him to live in condensed formations with long-developing play-action concepts just hasn't been his forte. And well, his boundary throws are limited in velocity which takes a big chunk of the playbook off. And I mean a QB like Bryce can still work, it's just Dave's offensive philosophy and foundation is very much at odds with Young's physical limits and his own experience. So it's certainly still a learning experience for Dave to figure out how he can mesh his offensive philosophy with Young's strengths. He's very inexperienced with maximizing Bryce's strengths with his system. Would love to see us bring in an OC with spread experience and adaptability to implement a cohesive system with Dave to allow Bryce to thrive, as it's obvious we're sticking with him for a bit longer.
    • Only thing I really agreed with is questioning why we didn’t take any timeouts on their last drive.  I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think it would’ve saved clock bc they were desperate to score as soon as the opportunity presented itself, but I also think it could’ve helped the defense regroup and maybe give us a better chance to stop them.
